I want to get more active in Nerf and wanted to see any Ohio Nerfers out there. I live in the mansfield area, and am willing to travel at least 1 1/2 hours. Please post your name, location, and if you wanna Nerf sometime.

Hey, my name is Nick, I live in Hamilton which is about 40 minutes north of Cincinnati. A lot more than an hour and a half, but I would love to Nerf. I've been to a couple, but they've been little piddly things.

I've been looking to get something together, hopefully something like what Twitch had going on at Lazer Kraze, in or near the Cinci/Hamilton area. My only problem is the lack of knowledge of places to Nerf at. I really want to get something consistent going that we can do every month or so, again as how Twitch had stuff at Lazer Kraze. I, unfortunately, lack transportation further than an hour in any direction which I'm hoping will change eventually...

If you have any thoughts on getting something started, let me know. I could use the help to get something going.

Yeah, lazercraze wars have been done, but probably one of the bigger recent-ish things was the Ohio Revolution. Generally, to my knowledge, Ohio stuff is centered around Cincinnati, and so some of us from northern Kentucky, and I think some part of Indiana, also participate.

If you have facebook, you might request to join the Cincinnati Nerfers group on facebook http://www.facebook....ps/46481830045/

Well, how about we get another Revolution up and running? It was in march last year, we can probably push the date to April just to make sure enough people can either get the day off or make plans to go to it. I would be more than willing to get it running.

While I am currently in West Virginia for college, I do technically live in Cincinnati and I'm in town for holidays and summer break. I'm all up for a large war, but like everyone else, transportation is an issue for me. Luckily for me there is an Amtrak station downtown. Also, very near to my house there is a laser tag arena known as Scallywag Tag, maybe they would be cool with having a war hosted there? Here is their number and address if you want to check it out.(491 Ohio Pike, Cincinnati, 45255 (513) 528-3696) ‎
Also, searching "scallywag tag cincinnati" will come up with their various sites around Ohio.

Scallywag Tag! I heard they have a pirate ship as their arena or in it. XD I'll give them a call before I head to work and see what they say. I've been hitting up parks near the Cincinnati area, but no luck so far. I'll edit my post if I get a yes from them :)

EDIT: I called them, their first offer was $300 for two hours. I said that was more than likely going to be too much, and I told them about what I saw you guys who had been to Lazer Kraze had normally paid, and she said she will talk to the owner and their GM about it. What days would you guys be interested in or able to do it, and how many people do you think we can get? I said we could get around 30-50, just to see what their prices would be per person.

PM me if you have people you can bring and what days you can do this, we might have an arena to use in the future.

I only live an hour or so from Ashland so I may be able to come up possibly (depending on when). And a Cincinnati war would give my family a reason to visit my sister who lives down there.

Okay, so if anyone can get to me how much they'd be willing to pay for a couple hours at Scallywag Tag, and how many people they'd be able to bring with them. If I can get a head count and money count, it'd be easy to talk them down in price.

I also need to know how often you guys will be willing to do this, they might be willing to go even cheaper if we're going to do this often enough.

If I might put in a bit of thought in here: often, at specialized venues (particularly indoor ones), the venue will mandate stock darts, and either stock or very lightly modded blasters. Some people may like this, but I'd imagine there are a lot of people who'd like to use their pride-and-joy blasters, along with at least slugs. Additionally, as has been noted, there is a fee, while there is normally no such issue with using parks. Lazertag arenas are good for use in the winter and general cold months, but as of when we held Revolution, it was warm enough to nerf outside, so it should be fine when this war is/would be held.

One park that has been previously used for Cinci wars is Rapid run Park
Pros: big shelter with tables for nerf stuff and in-between round leisure and rest.

Another, in Northern Kentucky (about 15 minutes from me) is the Boone Woods Park
Pros: also has a shelter, but which is sadly smaller, may be better at getting some of the KY nerfers to join in (hint hint). Con: may be too far south for some of the mid-ohio nerfers, it's important to know how filled any one area is with nerfers when picking a location in order to get the best turnout.

And for Revolution we used Mt. Echo Park Pros: big field, and as I recall there is also a big shelter there, residual awesomeness from the Revolution war. Con (maybe): we might have to set up cover to hide behind like at revolution, although this could be a theoretical problem with either of the others.

Obviously, for any wars I'd be slanted towards Boone Woods, but I'd suggest you look through, get a feel for each place, and maybe even let people vote where they would most likely want to go (or even just simply what's close enough to them to get to).

In such a thread, you might want to bill it as a Northern-KY-Eastern-Indiana-Ohio war thread, so you get people from all around the area. Someone who lives 40 minutes away from the war in Indiana might just skip the thread if it reads "Ohio war".

They do have a pirate ship in the arena, as well as another pirate ship on wheels that they pull around for parades and such. Yeah, a lower price would be definitely helpful but if we got high enough numbers, that much wouldn't be a big deal.

Sorry, Ashland is a little too far for me, probably about 4 or 5 hours by train....

To be fair, it says Ohio Nerfers. Unless Langley or someone else says we're allowed to make a redundant thread about Ohio area nerfers, albeit for a different part of Ohio, I'm keeping it in here until someone would like to collaborate an event so the Indiana and KY nerfers can join in too.

On topic: HasreadtheCoC; I believe I've been to Boone Park, but from the Google Maps view it looks a bit small. Not sure if it is, I just can't remember for the life of me if I've been there. As for the places to nerf, I'd of course be more inclined to go the Mt Echo park route or anything in the Cincinnati area.

Here's my $.02 on the war sites around the Cincy area.

RE: Lazer Kraze
It was 5 bucks per person for 3 hours (from midnight to 3am), and average attendance was in the 20-25 range, which is only $100ish total. However, as with Lazer Tag, suffers from "campers" and "spawn killing". Northernmost site. 15-35 players.

RE: Boone Woods Park
The fort is a nice battle arena, great for CTF/DTC/Powerball or anything with a central, defensible location. The con is that there's not a whole lot of space inside the fort proper, and a handful trained nerfers can keep the fort pretty well held down. 10-25 players

RE: Mt. Echo
Nice wide field, not a whole lot of natural cover though. Can support much larger wars. 15-50 players

RE: Rapid Run Park
Good staging area, not so good for cover. Comparable size to Boone Woods. 10-25 players.

Which is why I hope Scallywag Tag gets back to me so I can hear what they have to say.

Oh it has a fort? Hmm. I really like this one now, I had no idea what was there. We need a poll for this soon. Anyone want to get a war thread started for this?

This is the one I want to use the most, because I want to get a larger war started. I can always make some mobstacles for this, if given the proper amount of time.

Same as Boone Woods comment; we need a poll for everyone else. I'm good for any one of these.

I'd be up for a Lazer Kraze game. I loved it when I last attended. I don't recall being "spawn camped" at any point. I'm fine with any attendance fee under $15.

... a handful [of] trained nerfers can keep the fort pretty well held down.

Where do these Nerfers get their tactical training? I would love to attend a clinic on how to shoot Nerf guns and be tactical.

I'm waiting for a reply from the Lazer Kraze corporate guys on whether or not they'll let us do this again. Talked to a manager yesterday and e-mailed him the details about it.
