Up until now I avoided painting rebell blasters because of the lack of molded details on the shell. The stock wing patterns are kinda cool, but they aren't raised, so once you put a coat of paint on your left with one big, empty, boring surface. After my sister asked me to repaint her guardian crossbow this weekend, I decided to come up with my own unique remedy to this.
I started with a flat black Duplicolor vinyl dye, then I used some rustoleum metallic blue and metallic silver- applying both colors in different amounts on different parts of the blaster. I used this technique to add a little extra dimension to what was already there, without any mad detail brushing or masking tape skills.Posted Image
The smooth, subtle transitions between blue and silver are achieved by spraying a very light coat of color A from only one angle, then applying some of color b from any other angle.

In this case, I sprayed the metallic silver from the back going forward...

... and from the top going down-

Then I applied two light coats of the metallic blue spraying from the front of the shell going back. I then added one extra coat only to the front part that surrounds the turret.

I finished off with a rustoleum crystal clear enamel finish to give it some added protection and shine.

I'm sure this painting technique has been done before, I just wanted to show you my own way of doing it.

ALSO:
if anyone has tried blending more than two colors I would love to hear about it. I'm especially curious as to wether or not this can be done with multiple textures, like gloss into flat, metallic into gloss etc...

Gut the electronics, drill a hole in the shell, and attach a crank to the gear. Bam, crank-action stampede that doesn't require batteries, or even a trigger.

...(also judging by your past posts, I would consider you pretty dang wise elder like in the modding community  )

This post is informative enough to warrant its own thread. You should try to avoid backseat moderating next time and just use the report feature.
