Yeah, aluminum is hard to find up my way. Brass is pretty easy to find in the larger towns/small cities, but PETG is really hard to find, it seems that most pet suppliers won't carry it. One store showing promise is primarily into aquatic pets, so for anybody out there looking for some local PETG, check pet stores with alot of aquatic life.

PETG is not going to be available in usable sizes unless you order a custom run of 100 feet or more. Hence why it's sold on the forums here and elsewhere by certain members. If you want to use PETG contact me, OMC, or sometimes cxwq.

Again, those are not usable sizes because their dimensions are precisely fractional (1/2" ID won't work). Typically a barrel will need somewhere between a .525" to .5345" inner diameter to be compatible with micro stefans.

oh!!! thanks cxg.. although i can get your name staright you helped me alot. i am using homemade stefans, and let me tell you what works best for my nite finder...

BRASS

EDIT: the big thing that i don't get is that modman uses brass barrels and it gives the nite finders the best preformance ive ever seen.... and it works the same with any nerf micro :)

1/2" SCH80 CPVC typically has an inner diameter around .526", which is a very good fit for most 1/2" foam backer rod and stock darts.

Cs, the Arcata pet place did have 9/16 OD plastic tube, but thats not to say that the inside will fit stephans. Also, here is a place with acrylic tubing, comes in various sizes, colors, and wall thicknesses (sp). http://www.rplastics...crylictube.html

Been doing a little bit of experimentation with aluminum as a barrel material.

Yeah, I've found that 3/4" aluminum is really good for 5/8" backer rod, at least the fat stuff I have.

What is the wall thickness? That would be a squeeze getting 5/8" into 5/8".

@CaptainSlug: Would 17/32 brass nest inside that aluminum?

It should be fairly obvious that the answer is no.

17/32 = 0.53125"

The ID of the aluminum barrel = 0.526"

If they're taggers, really tight. I've found that CPVC is the tighest of all the common barrel materials (my darts don't work in it at all).

EDIT: Typo (stupid lack of google toolbar on this computer!)

For maximum efficiency?

1. Pump up. Count how many pumps.

2. Keep going until you hear a loud "bang".

3. Subtract one pump from the total. Rebuild your air bladder.

There you go.

On a related note, I've found that 5/8 ID poly fits the aluminium like a glove -- good seal, but slide-able.

Yesterday, I went to Home Depot looking for a barrel material and found a material that fits my stock darts and some of my 1/2'' wide stefans. It's called PEX piping and it seems like it's exactly the same as PVC. Anyone know the difference? Is it heavier? Lighter? More friction?

if we're both thinking of the same thing, the you probably have PEX, PolyPEX, or Poly pipe, which is black or off-white in colour. It's used for a durable, corrosion-resistant water delivery (found more and more in homes in this day and age), and is used to replace copper. I thought about using it once, but it is flexible, which means it is only good for short barrels. Long barrels could sag if they are unsupported.

It's just normal PEX. Since I only use short barrels that are 5 in. at the longest, I find that PEX works very well, and it's cheaper than the PVC I could find. It also performs better than my copper.

Yeah, it's really cheap material (cost-wise). For that short, you'd have no problems. It's for singled guns with like a a >14" barrel that might see problems. What length do you get it in? I've only seen 50' rolls of it (that's the smallest, I've seen 100' and 500').

The smallest length it was being sold in was 5'. I got two 5' measures of it.

PEX = Polyethylene
It comes in white or black. It's not very easy to source in pipe sizes smaller than 3/4.

CS, would you mind posting the McMaster links for Sch. 80 CPVC and the aluminum tubing. I haven't had any luck finding them on McMaster.

EDIT: I found the Aluminum tubing, but am still looking for the Sch. 80 CPVC link/part number.

Another question...

I am modding a nitefinder. What length of sch40 1/2" pvc should I use with stock micros (with sticky tip not the sonics)?
