Ok here we go,
First thread and first write-up.
I planned to do a recon write up as soon as i was validated so i finally got to it.

All the pictures can be viewed in a larger format simply by clicking on them.(Jeez, that sounds nerdy!)

Heres what you need:
1-Recon
1-tube of Epoxy putty.
1-5" length of 1" PVC
1-set of springs, your choice of strength and length.
1-device to cut PVC
A set of various scredrivers.
Patience.

First start out by unscrewing al the screws. Shown below.
Posted Image
Ok, once thats done you'll see the insides they should look similar to this, minus the tape and paint.
Posted Image

You want to start out by doing a basic AR removal. Many other threads on the Modification directory can help you with this. After that your plunger tube should have a clean hole through it. Like so.
Posted Image

Ok now here is the main source of power in this gun. The power stock. Take a 6" length of PVC and nest it in the stock using Epoxy putty. Before you do that you'll evidently have to move that thing in the middle that holds the clip back. If you look in the below picture you'll see it has been slid back, its there, its just painted black. when you unscrew you'll see a peg that holds the piece in place, cut it off and sand the nub down. Now it wil slide along the stock. You want to glue all the way back on the stock, as far as it can slide.

Then make sure the tube is aligned with the stock and epoxy putty it into place. I used E-tape to secure a little bit more.
Posted Image

Ok now you will need some springs, there is a vast selection of springs that you can use, as long as they can compress fully in the pvc tube.
I use the two pictured below meshed together. Black spring is 4" long and the silver is 3".
Posted Image
Both springs put together are about the strength of a BBB srping, which also works in the tube.

Here they are resting in the tube.
Posted Image
Then just attach the stock with the springs in the tube.
When the plunger rod comes out the back of the gun the two springs compress adding more force apon the plunger rod.

I would post a picture of it all screwed back together but image shack is getting all pissy at me, Soon to come!

Ok Thats pretty much it.
Simple and practical.

Ranges:
All shots taken at shoulder height level, with modified streamlines.

Lowest: 70'4"

Highest: 83'3"

Ok, i hope you like it, i do.

Nice write-up. I guess I'll attempt this on my recon :) The only thing I'd change is put the list of supplys/needed materials at the top. Once again, nice job.(I know that doesn't mean much from a new member though.) Also, Welcome to Haven.

Good write-up, it's basically a simplified version of the modification that OfAllTheNerf did a while back. Cleared out the A/Rs and did a spring housing in the stock. deaddumpster and a few others did similar mods also. Basic stuff, yet good to go.

I won't comment on your range claims, although they are pretty generous for a springer with an effective barrel length of about 3 inches or so. I've never gotten to taking apart my son's and my Recons, but they will be among the first of things to be done in the shop (first is to repair the 4-5 NiteFinders whose epoxied barrels broke off).

But who knows. This was your purported "100 foot Recon", but you we're man enough to admit that those were angled ranges. I guess I'll just have to do a Recon mod myself before passing judgment.

Any clue as to what kinds of springs those are?

Good writeup, though.

Yeah the 100' thing is angled but hey its 100"!

I cant help you much with the springs,

The black one came from a cheap little unknown pistol i got for a dollar at target.

Silver one is from home depot. Thats all i can say about that one.

If you slip a BBB spring in the tube you'll get about the same ranges, havn't measured but their about the same, maybe farther.

Did you do any reinforcing? Because thats seems like an awful lot of force for the stock catch mechanism to handle. Good writeup though.

Frankly, this sorta makes me want to get a Recon. If I ever see a Recon for less than $20 I might just pick it up..

Sorry about that,

The sled and the catch are both reinforced with some stuff called faststeel.
Its an epoxy putty with steel in it, i dunno but its strong.

The Recon is a great little gun.

I broke my recon a while back. I was thinking about buying another one, and doing the same mods with some more I thought of but then the vulcan came out. I'm just saving up my money until I can get it, which may take a while since I have marching band camp all next week.

on topic:

It's a good little write up, bigger pictures could be nice, but I can understand what you did here with these ones, good job!

Its alright,

I think yours is the first gen, it has a hole in the clip holder doesn't it?

I see where the problem is.

Thanks for the compliments,

I think this is a great mod, but I am automatically biased about mods which make the recon bigger.

Don't get me wrong, I think you did an amazing job and 80' is great to hear coming from a recon, but here's my logic:

I believe the biggest advantage the Recon has over the Longshot is its size. As a pistol, 80+ feet coming from a clipped gun would be amazing. But when it out-grows pistol size, it becomes a longshot in essence.

Sorry if I sound like I'm flaming you because I'm totally not. Kudos for a clean mod!

Great work! I would mod my Recon, but with just an AR removal it's almost loud enough to need earplugs. So how loud is yours when you fire it?

No problem.

I have to agree with you. It does not feel like a pistol at all but thats sort of how i like it. I feels like a pistol with a stock. Like a glock. Minus the automatic part.

Well.... its not quite.
I haven't added foam in it yet so its probably not as soft as it can be.
You can also hot glue one of the springs down in the tub so when you fire it doesn't shutter all over the place.
Sound wise right now its not much difference than a basic AR removal. Maybe a little louder.

Imageshack is still pissy i cant get any more photos on.

Nice job on the writeup. This mod seems like a very simple and functional fix for the lack of range in a recon. Now I'm going to have to convince my cousin to let me do this mod on his recon. If he hears about these ranges he'll have to let me. Excellent job.
