My friends and I had been experimenting with Nerf zombie as a game type and the idea to take it a step further and turning it into a simplified Larp came forth. I started browsing various Larping sites and rules.

What I discovered was this: http://larpsupply.com/_wsn/page5.html

Many Larps use these guns as opposed to Nerf.I just wish the site hadn't closed down so I could get my hands on some. Has anyone ever encountered these? If so do any of you own one personally?

I'd love to buy one or more, they seem interesting.

It looks like you could make one. Its probably just a simple design like a SNAP or similar just on a larger scale. As for the foam balls .68 caliber is paintball size, so it might be hard to come across .68 caliber foam balls unless you know of a website that sells them. It looks cool, and if you try to make one good luck.

I like many people on this form use to play paintball. When you said that you needed foam balls the size of paintballs it reminded me of this.

The crossbow looks interesting. Can anybody tell how it's supposed to work?

Wait, I am tired. Some stores such as Wal*Mart sell foam paintballs. I am sure of this.

Yeah. See the triangle near the trigger area? The circle on the lower point of the triangle is a pivot. The upper circle is a handle going to the triangle on the other side (see the pistol crossbow for an example). When you press down on the handle, it presses up on the elastic which is pulled back and over a stop. When the elastic gets over the top of the wood, it zips forward, pressing against the base of the nerf arrow.

I am sure it would be easy enough to make one but making one that looked so clean AND had a wooden stock is a completely different thing. I guess what I really like is the old school look that the guns have, and the loading just seems interesting; like loading an old musket. Thanks for all the input so far guys, keep it up!

I own a couple of the full sized crossbows, one of the pistol crossbows, and I think I still have some of the actionball guns somewhere. I have been using them at various LARPs over the last five years. All work well, and have held up fine over the years. The only one i really don't like is the small crossbow, the dowel that the "arrow" is guided by is too small for the "arrow" and it tends to roll around / fall off.

Screw the guns, those swords and stuff look badass! I would get one if it didn't cost 40-50 bucks, I'll just wait to get one of those Nerf swords coming out...

Would you be up for selling one or more of the actionball guns to me? I would really appreciate it! Pm sent just in case you don't check the thread.

Here's a link about something like this (this isn't the actual document, obviously). LARP Nerf Combo I'll try to get some permission from WLT to post the link to the actual document.

Well I cant post a link to the rules system doc that I'm working on as it's set to invite only. (dont want any one stealing my ideas before I get the game rolling) but if you're interested in checking it out send me a PM and I'll invite you. Do bear in mind that it is still very much in it's infancy.

Also, for LARP weapons without equal I recommend ironliege.com. I've bought a few weapons from him now and when my new game takes off will likely buy more.

I was told about a new site he was working on where I could possibly get his weapons.

Here it is: http://pirates.larp.com/events.html

I sent him a message about his weapons but still no reply.

Iron liege makes nice looking weapons. If you can afford one, and if you are willing to wait until they get around to you, You can get a nice looking weapon. Many LARPs don't allow them because the thrust tip is almost non existent, and they are really hard. Also they are latex weapons, which means once anything happens to one they are useless, as they are really hard to repair, unlike foam and tape boffer type weapons. I have seen folks spend the hundreds of dollars they charge for them to have them get broken before the end of the first event of use, and I have seen them get turned away because they don't pass a games safety check in, but they are pretty.

Ben got out of the weapon making business for personal reasons, and despite many requests, he has refused to return. One of the LARPs I attend bought out almost all of his remaining stock last fall when we found out he was closing his doors for good.

Would you send out the word to anyone you know that I'm interested in buying a few guns? I spoke with Ben about it and he said he would be able to sell me a pistol or two but I'd love to get my hands on a rifle or two also. Thanks so much for the info!

I own 2 of his weapons. They're not all latex. Infact, only the pummel and the guard are latex, the blade itself is actually covered in fabric. As for a thrust tip, you're right and the maker warns against thrusting with these weapons, however he does offer an upgrade to your custom weapon that includes a thrust tip. You're also right in that should the weapon be damaged you can't repair it by slapping some more duct tape on it. I think that ironliege offers a repair service for his weapons though...

I imagine that since it's custom work, if you really wanted a blade covered in duct tape he'd be willing to do that for you...
