Little background, I run HvZ wars on my college campus, with ~200 players, for charity. Haul in a few grand every year for Children's Miracle network, et cetera.

A local five-star RV resort got wind. They want me to put on a 3-5 day HvZ on 195 acres... for up to 2000 people. Has anyone ever done a BIG event like this? It's primarily stock class, as these are retired folks, doctors, lawyers, engineers, and their kids/grand kids. Demographic ranges from 0-95. I was thinking a small war for an hour or two for 0-12, then the full blown one for 13-95, but honestly it's a bit overwhelming.

Any tips on managing big groups? Inspecting THAT MANY blasters for safety? Enforcing rules? The resort has a few hundred employees, and will be running the event, but I'll be directing efforts.

Edited for minor typo.

Don't have any first hand experience, but probably just make sure they fire darts through a chrono, make sure it's near stock and stock darts only. Any violators will be asked to leave, and for staff to regulate games. A small area set up for younger children, primary area given to older demographics. Good luck running,

Those kiddos that are 8 - 12 will probably want to play longer than just an hour. My son's 9th birthday party was a nerf war and was longer than that and they still wanted to play. However at that age they need more structure. I think Snoop had a good idea about having a small area set up for the kids so that they can play nerf and not get jealous of the larger ones playing. Perhaps have simple games for them such as the dart dual, target practice, etc.

You want to keep the kiddos happy so that they don't bug the parents and make them take time away from the game.

I am not really much help for the main game. However you will want to have a main table as your command center as well as one or two strong helpers so that when things happen fast and you get bombarded that they can help you. You will have to be there manning that table the whole time. You need to be the one in charge making the final decisions on anything. You want it so that when someone needs to know what to do that either your two helpers can answer the question with confidence because it was simple or that if not simple everyone knows that you are the one to go to and get your answer. Basically there needs to be a person in charge that makes the final decision when there are different opinions on what to do. I have been to many other large events not related to nerf and where there isn't one person in charge chaos happens.

You have my attention.

As far as games as large as these go, I think your best bet would be to keep it cool, relaxed, and casual for the players who most certainly are not even aware of modified blasters. It has been my experience in playing HvZ the past five years that for every one dedicated player, there are a dozen players who treat HvZ as a social event, and less the faux-larp it should be.

It may be best to simply keep all blasters bone stock, with the exception of external accessories (slings, lights, etc...). Depending on when this happens, and the size of the event, I may be willing to make the trek over for it.

The event will be July 9th-11th, with the attempt at the world record for largest Nerf battle on Saturday, July 11th. There's another planning meeting on the 21st of this month. I think we'll contact Hasbro, since the last world record attempt (260) got loot crates. Gears, I'd love to have you come out to participate. Same goes for all community members. When I have a bit more info, I'll post it as a War Thread.
