During both World Wars, Battery Kinzie defended Puget Sound from enemy warships. Built to withstand direct hits from battleships, it is constructed in a similar style as German bunkers on D-Day. 3 stories of concrete rooms and hallways form a perfect place for indoor/outdoor Nerf warfare!

Previous Wars listed on NerfHaven: Oct 2009, Dec 2009

Date: Sunday, February 28th, rain or shine!

Time: 11 am until dusk.

Location: Battery Kinzie in Fort Worden State Park, Port Townsend, Washington.

Directions. Battery Kinzie is located in the northeast corner of Fort Worden State Park in Port Townsend, WA. This is about a 2 hour drive+ferry from the greater Seattle area. Upon entering the park, you will want to turn east on Eisenhower Ave and then north on Harbor Defense Way. The three parking lots are located on the left just before you approach the lighthouse. Battery Kinzie is directly north of the parking lots. Google Maps Location

Cost: The State Park is free. Carpooling is encouraged and seats are available for those in King County.

Sandwiches, soda, and water will be provided. Please let me know if you are planning on coming so I can bring enough for everyone.

Loaner weapons are available along with plenty of Nerf ammo. Due to a missing loaner longshot and other problems, you will now need to reserve loaners in advance. Loaner Weapons

All of our normal games are back and we will be introducing a new squad-based game this war. Players are encouraged to bring their friends and create their own 3 or 4-person squad together. Players not belonging to prearranged squads will still be able to play, as we will form them into squads will other players. More information in a later post.

Rules:
  • All players under 18 need parental consent.
  • Eye Protection required. We have extras.
  • Official Nerf Ammo only. Other brands are generally acceptable.
  • Nerf Melee weapons allowed for zombie rounds.
  • All modded blasters are subject to approval.
  • This is a state park. We keep it clean, respect other guests, and behave ourselves.
  • Any threats of actual violence, unsafe play, or other nonsense will not be tolerated.

You said darts are available... would it be asking too much for me and 3 guests to use some of your darts? I don't have any stock darts.

Another question regarding ammunition: Must they be Nerf brand? Or are Buzzbee, Lanard, and Airzone brand stuff acceptable as well?

Also, I would love to go, and I will look in to making it happen.

Here's how loaner weapons are going to work. Loaners are for people without guns, or need a backup sidearm. Max 1 Maverick + 1 other gun per player. Let me know what numbers you and your friends want and I'll reserve them. When you arrive at the war, you let me know what your NerfHaven name is and I'll hand you the guns. I'm bringing my entire arsenal anyway for walk-ons players, or when guns break, etc. I'm just going to track them better. Other players will probably be bringing their own loaners, and it's up to them to decide how to give them out.

Today is just made of win. My university's Nerf squad just got approved for next year, and now I find this. Really, there's no need for me to confirm, because you know I'm there... but better safe than sorry. I'm guessing we'll have a full car this time, but at the least the usual 3-4.

How do you feel about homemades? Case-by-case, must use stock ammo?

I'm glad to see you are coming. You are correct. All homemade and modified weapons are welcome. Any complaints of pain may result in the gun being removed from play.

No meets that weekend+no finals in sight=I should be there, maybe plus 1. Or I might be coming with my group of 4, either way, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be there, and I'm psyched.

I'll be there. I'll try to bring other people than my typical group. The squad battle thing sounds pretty beast.

I guess you have some heavy duty industrial strength toilet paper holders. Do they advise you to wear eye protection when changing rolls?

My TTG mod.

For the parental consent bit, what do you want? Like an email?

Also, I will be there, and will have 3-4 guests.

Hey, I'm Tantumbull's ride, and fellow nerfer. I will be there. Question: Are vulcans allowed? it's not modded.

Edit: And can I loan one of those guns? Specifically number 7.

Vulcans are allowed. They are very useful in some of the games.

Doubling as a bump, I'll post to confirm that, assuming we work out this driving business, I will be there. With a possible plus one. Let's hope for no rain, though that's asking a bit much for Washington.
What kind of range caps are we looking at here? Would, say, a quadded 2k be acceptable?

People can bring what they want, as long as they can use it safely. Any complaints of pain caused by a gun will result in the examination and possible removal of said gun. No homemade darts.

This is a typical action shot in a war. The bunker is over half indoors. Expect ranges such as these.

I will probably be there. Is anyone willing give me a ride to the war, preferably from the Eastside? I would help pay for gas, ferry etc. I will probably need to borrow some of the community darts. Tantum, could you please bring two RF20 spacer plates for pickup. Thank you. If anyone wants to buy a +bow and save on shipping, the price is negotiable.

I have a spot on a car leaving from Kirkland to catch the 8:40 am ferry in Edmonds. PM me with your exact address and contact info if you are interested.

Right now it looks like I'll be going that day. I live in Maple Valley and may have room for two passengers. I usually drive south through Tacoma across the narrows bridge, but I can possibly head into Seattle and catch the Edmunds Kingston run instead if no other rides work out. Keep me posted if it gets a few days out and no rides are forthcoming, and I'll see what I can do.

It looks like at least 25, plus another 10 possible. This will probably be the biggest one so far.
