#53410 Your Ride?

Posted by Cadmond on 24 April 2005 - 09:09 PM in Off Topic

I enjoy that people added in bicycles, which, makes sense considering the spread of age. I will be one of those people, not caring about driving.

I ride a trek street bike (like an 870?) which is in desperate need of an overhaul. It shifts when I don't want to shift, the seatpost is too short (perhaps I just need another bike) and things make clicking noises when I decide to go real fast (pedals, mostly)

I have 2 nishiki olympics, one is just a frameset right now, the other is waiting for some paint, and then I'll be rebuilding it as a fixed gear 42:16 (nishiki olympics are great for such a thing)

I've a 5 speed bridgestone of all things in the garage (yes, just like the tire company) that I found in a dumpster. It's horrendously yellow, which part of me loves.

And I've recently run into the shit luck to fix up huffies for a now impatient, immigrant family. God I hate these bikes.

#13668 Working On Grenades

Posted by Cadmond on 03 December 2003 - 10:45 PM in Homemades

I think it's called imagination. They say that some sweat shop owners are bottling it and selling it to oil tycoons for millions.

Anywho, I don't think it'd work to well. From what I assume, the lightsaber wouldn't go off if you just dropped it, you'd actually need to grab it and push it.Which isn't a grenade. But this is just an assumption that its working at high pressures. If not, then sure, it should work dandy. As long as you figure out an autoleveling system that still maintains enough force to trip the nade. Or weights.. whatever.

#19134 What Kinda Clips?

Posted by Cadmond on 16 February 2004 - 11:52 AM in Homemades

Christ, as long as you have someone to hate, I suppose you're all happy.. but that one I guess..

Onto the original problem. Clips, are really simple. And I'm using the word clip, so don't even bother. I made one a while ago with cpvc, lexan/plexiglass, and pop rivets as the frame, and just 2 springs, more cpvc and some aluminum rods to give it it's guts. However, the thing only forces out 4 bloody rounds. And I REALLY don't want to go heat up my forge to anneal and temper and do all that other crap to a spring for no good reason. That is.. for stretching. As for the cpvc into something, you can drill out pvc with a 5/8s bit, and that will work.

But what should I do? Raid the staplegun
They have great springs! It's their shape that probably helps. They are the only springs that I can find that are used to feed a magazine... clip.. too late. However, they're expensive. But just incase anyone has found an alternative, a good alternative, then be sure to post it here.

As for anagrams, with.. puncuation! maybe it's a bad idea.

thai bowl trasher!

#20024 What Is This?

Posted by Cadmond on 26 February 2004 - 11:32 PM in Off Topic

It's Cthulhu. C'mon, don't they teach you about Cthulhu in school? Nyarlathotep? LOVECRAFT AT ALL?
They'd better, you need to know these things to survive.. on the streets.

#10317 What Do You Think About It:

Posted by Cadmond on 23 September 2003 - 10:42 PM in Off Topic

All in all, I find this off topic sway to be better than the original.

And now, to the ranting...

I think it all leads down the the misconception that we have to stereotype ourselves to fit into a desired "clique." It's just self limitation, and I'm tired of the kids that do it. Sure, be yourself, have confidence, ect. But, like you said merlinksi, some kids just do it to be "cool."

Now, onto the music...

I thought pop was just popular music? And by that definition, pop spans alot of styles of music. Which leads to what?

Generalizations based on random samplings of the genre.

It seems as if we think that every "pop" band, is just like the next one, and the same might go for any genre. Maybe if you hear 4 bands, don't like them, you suddenly don't like the genre they're in. Which brings up my previous point: Self limitation.

It's a short life, experience as much as you can while you still have it, even if that includes shitty music, or something that makes you *egasp!* different from everyone else.

point!

#9385 What Are You Going To Be For Halloween?

Posted by Cadmond on 07 September 2003 - 07:39 PM in Off Topic

My freinds are all too "cool" for halloween.. so I think I'll just run around demanding candy for my mere presence. Lacking costumes makes you apathetic, and therefor, cool.

Ah.. the teenage mindset.

#15572 Trigger Mods?

Posted by Cadmond on 03 January 2004 - 12:24 PM in Modifications

Basically, it allows you to pull the trigger harder than before. The spring on the triggers of most of the supermax guns is there to prevent you from firing an overpressurized gun.

But anyways, I used to wrap the springs in ribbon and then tape... you could just put hotglue there too, as you've said.

Just find a way to make the spring on the trigger a rigid thing, with no tendencies to compress (well.. a great deal,) and you're done.

Doesn't really reduce the trigger pull.. Just makes it more responsive.

#32187 The Ultimate Site For Homemades!

Posted by Cadmond on 23 July 2004 - 01:54 PM in Homemades

If you're going to be selling 80 or so of the homemades you make (I'd keep 20%, others might not) then the site is good. You might even get back most of your money. Or if you're making a lot of custom shells (for some odd reason..?)

But beside that, this site is useless.

That, and you can make your own castings, milling machines, ect to do this with. You just have to have some ambition.

Well, that and there are local machine shops that generally charge less.

#18292 Swat Homemade

Posted by Cadmond on 05 February 2004 - 08:21 PM in Homemades

Everyone should probably finish off this little quarrel with a dose of elephant tranqs.. That'd be nice.

Maybe a cup of tea too..

Question, what kind of homemade scope? Just like, 2 strings and a piece of tubing, or.. other sorts.. the cooler sorts.

#33084 Stefan Dart Maker

Posted by Cadmond on 04 August 2004 - 02:42 AM in Homemades

Heh.. you guys don't really understand how easy (wait.. I mean difficult) this would be. However, I didn't read most of nerf bunny's post, so if he mentioned this, then .. oh well..

The only hard (hardest) part I can think of for this (langley kicked CNC into my mind) is the programming, and drilling a baseboard to hold 10x10 (20x20, 30x30, whatever the hell you want) stefan blanks. Oh, and the monies.. always the monies. Monies for the linear bearings, for the machine shop (if you're like that,) for the electronics, for the extra things you'll buy for yourself during this project so you can feel like a pretty little girl again .... *cough*.. Cutting stefans is easy.. very easy.. I don't think that is needed in the system, but glueing, and whatnot, is much more annoying.

So yeah, CNC glue gun. Basically, a cheapened this with maybe a sinker dispenser, swirling peltier top domer, ect, ect, blah blah blah.

*Prepares for the ridicule and yelling*

#7024 Sm1500 Repair

Posted by Cadmond on 14 July 2003 - 09:49 PM in Modifications

my useless, but horribly fun idea! involves .. wait a second, first I need to ask a question. Is the o-ring in a kind of well there, or is it fully exposed? if it's in a well (I haven't looked at an sm1500 for a lonnnnggg time) I think you'd have to go from small tubing, to washer/whatnot If it's exposed (like half) you can use a regular washer, like zero said. But!

I dunno how well the washer will stay with just plumber goo, and .. washer-ness. So! if you wanted to! you could use a support! system! (sorry )

http://www28.brinkst...0-reinforce.gif
alright folks, copy and paste. Like I said, I dunno.. 3 times, over-complication, but I like it!

WAKARIMASEN! BWAHAHAH! take the japanese skills.. actually.. that should have been shirimasen.. damn. I don't understand.. I don't know. same thing.. .. . ...

Good job on the shotgun, I think I'm going to take advantage of it ... anyways, ... sugoi desune!

I assume you could just swab the end with rubbing alcohol instead of primer, if you can't find any of that purple junk about (it's all over my basement floor.)

I mean.. they smell the same..

I guess I should stop tuning out when I'm on the forums so such double postings won't happen. Is there no delete button, or am I just confused?

Truely.

I live in seattle. I could probably back you for moral support, but nerfing isn't something I do much at all.

Guys, as for parks, there are alot. It matters how open/closed you want.
I prefer obstacle full parks, and I dislike schools (concrete, kids playing basketball getting in the way, whatever)

Choose one or the other, and I'll try to list some.

Btw, what happened at whitman?

#7033 Revolver

Posted by Cadmond on 15 July 2003 - 12:31 PM in Homemades

I'll revive this topic a bit, and give you my thoughts (s'not THAT old!)

I've tried making revolvers, sniperx (I think that was him) supposedly came close, or finished, can't remember, and he did it the way all revolvers are made. With ratcheting turning systems.. youuuu knowww. So anyways. I never saw the plans, nor did anyone else, but ratcheting turning systems are your best chance for automatic rotation. Well.. rotation with the trigger motion, I'm pretty sure there's a diagram on howstuffworks.com in revolvers that shows how this works. Might be able to bodge that up (bodge..)

As for the seal, that's a bit trickier if you want automatic rotation. You could have it spring loaded, and go in when the trigger is in to a point, then shoot back out, with way of a catch.. but that's really, bit complicated, unless you're actually motivated  . There are other ways, this one comes to mind first. Oh, and use internal coupings if you're going to do it this way (like, brass-cpvc barrel makes the seal.)
And if you want an extra barrel.. like revolvers, well.. that can't be too hard. Just remember to bevel the inside edges so the dart goes in easy.

#5208 Reggae

Posted by Cadmond on 01 June 2003 - 11:00 PM in Off Topic

The Specials are 2-tone ska you silly boy!... .. .. . ^_^
But they're good.. listening to them right now in fact.
(actually, I'm sure I'm wrong on the former point, and that they do go a bit reggae-ish on some songs..)

As for reggae, I'm sure I'd enjoy it if I listened to it more. The most I hear is the reggae that the pietasters play (which isn't really much.)

#5368 Reggae

Posted by Cadmond on 07 June 2003 - 08:51 PM in Off Topic

Wow! good summary ash.. most people don't even think about the up-beat thing. But eh, I have some dis-agreeances... and I'm sure a few people would like to disagree with them. Anyways

Ska and ska-influenced music are different. We all have to recognize this fact. I often say sublime isn't ska, and often, I mean it. Though, this is entirely opinon.

Anywho, due to this, defining the first wave, 2-tone, and 3rd wave is quite difficult. Well.. if you want to be precise that is. I don't really want to define them.. but, it's, in my opinion, not in the timeframe, like a few people think, but in the sound. Not that it matters much, as the former thought is usually a minority.

Anywho, I should probably disagree now. I don't really think the only thing seperating ska and punk are the up-beat/down-beat. I really think there is alot more to it. But I hate genres, and I'm tired.. so I'll edit this post when I feel like explaining.

*edit*
oh wait! this thread is about reggae! oops..

#28348 Pop Darts

Posted by Cadmond on 12 June 2004 - 12:44 AM in Homemades

Harmless? bah!

I remember, one time, I got a paper towel, and unwrapped the contents of like 3 boxes of poppers into it, to make, obviously, one mega-popper.

Lets just say it was a bad idea.

#25973 New Valve?

Posted by Cadmond on 12 May 2004 - 07:29 PM in Homemades

I suppose that means I have to explain it..

Well, the design won't really work, but whatever.

Anywho, the brass tubing is basically the inlet and outlet for the air, coming from an unspecified source, going in the direction called up, in correlation to the diagram.

The piston inlet port allows pressurized air to push on the piston, which should be full of a small "charge" or whatever, the piston then letting go of that charge through the top brass. it's not really a piston, more like a movable airtank....

Of course, the realistic concept design would should just have a stick to push on the piston from the left side (force going right..)

All the same benefits, less timing required.

Sorry bout that, just found the resemblance was odd.

#25918 New Valve?

Posted by Cadmond on 11 May 2004 - 11:17 PM in Homemades

Disturbing...

I need to start sharing my designs more often.
Regardless, for valve-age, that design will work quite well I think. I can't see any disadvantages from the other systems I've seen... infact, more surface area would probably help, as the any leak would/could be stifled by a simple jiggle or whatever. Looks good. Hopefully, you'll be proactive, and tell us how an actual one works.

#32572 New Ipod

Posted by Cadmond on 29 July 2004 - 02:04 AM in Off Topic

I dislike Apple for almost no reason, but regardless, I dislike them for all of eternity. So, to get around them, I've bought mainly cd players for the last 5-6 years of my life (only had to buy 2 so far.. my old one crapped out after 5 years)

But that part isn't really important. The part I'm getting to, is that I bought a minidisc inbetween those 2 cd players, and loved it. 5 cds in 1/4th the size of 1! Of course, it ends up being a fancy mp3 cd player, but woah ho ho! Look at this!

So, doing the math, we have a 200 dollar minidisc player, vs a 300 dollar ipod with 20 GB capacity.. I don't know who actually fills them up all the way.. but for math's sake, lets say so.

100 dollars difference, and 6 dollars a gig for the MD, and Ipod wins by 20 dollars. But you can easily pocket some of the 100 difference, and live off 3 gigs for a while. Or wait till they sell the HI-MD discs in bulk, instead of one at a time.. which I doubt they'll do any time soon.

Also, they can apparently record video.

But that just confuses me.

Anyways, I dislike sony as well, because its products only work with 98SE + (as does everything these days D: ) so if you don't like the alternative, oh well.

(By comparison, you can get a 100 dollar mp3-cd player, and then buy 30-ish 700 MBs cds for 50 cents each: 15 dollars worth of discs for 20 gbs, $185 saved. Of course, then you're lugging around 30 discs. Ipods might just be one of those "convenient" things. )

On the subject of apple and iPod, here is another pleasant alternative to iTunes (the downloading part at least) which comes from distraught copyright laws of Mother Russia!

A penny a MB, weee!

While I disagree with ripping off artists, I disagree more with lieing about it... somehow.

Right, and it's still #nerfchat

But, if wtrent doesn't comply, for SOME wierd reason, we'll have to burn his house down, and steal his favorite shoes. Lets hope it doesn't come to that ;)

Pietasters, Aquabats, Mad Caddies, Hippos, Suburban Legends, Specials, Untouchables, The slackers, Ben Folds Five, The Chinkees (you just have to read along, makes the songs much better) Tilt, Bouncing Souls, and more!
exciting, isn't it?

Oh, and the token on-topic note; While my dress shoes (also my walking, running, biking, dancing, and hiking shoes) are so conveniently separated from their soles, I'm going to either insert a steel plate in there (Nails are annoying), or install some kind of spring-loaded knife apparatus... For the sporatic monkey knife fights, of course. Anyone have some suggestions of stuff to work into there while they're apart? The soles are about an inch thick or so at the heel, and 2.5cm at the front, so I could fit something in there... It seems like a waste to just fix them.

You so crazy.. but if you are serious, I could make a simple diagram. Uh.. if you are.

You're not going to put some kind of poison that kills in 6 seconds on the tips of these knives, then work for some evil supervillian bent on taking over the world, are you?

#4065 Life...

Posted by Cadmond on 27 April 2003 - 11:49 PM in Modifications

Tasty topic. I myself, mod very little. But it's there! it's there alright!

Oh, and I stay the hell away from modding electronics.. I don't know enough about them. Wish I did.

To tell you the truth, I can't think of a bloody thing I've actually modified, as in, in my definition, improved with the deduction and addition of material. I know I have, I just can't remember. It's either fixing, or scratch building that I do the most.

Usually scratch building.. and with me staying away from electronics, it's fairly easy. I gave my mother a garden shovel I built a day or 3 ago. It's shiney ;D

If it counts, I'm painting my cd case (medium hard plastic, round, opens like an accordian) black and white checkers. Zero, you know what I'm talking about... and yes, I have a lot of time on my hands.

Ughh, the fact that I haven't modified much is getting on my nerves! my nerves.. hmmmmm .... Yeah, I'm going to go give my sketchbooks some holders.

Yes, he just came to the wrong place.

Anywho, I figure I'll attack rhino now, and yes, I'm stating that because this is what its going to be.

Rhino, shut up. "With the exception of maybe Stefan and Cxwq, no one person has made a huge impact that no one else would have done." I percieve that to be bullshit. If you think about it, you'll probably come up with 20 names of people who've made an impact, even a HUGE impact on our little community. I don't mean to show stefan or Cxwq any disrespect, but there are more pioneers. You're using a "what if" that will always remain a "what if" to make your statement true... Put more thought into your post, instead of throwing out your very own, knee jerk reaction.

I don't believe you have a crystal ball, cut out the fortune teller act.

Yes, I'm a bitter old man...

#11191 Just Stop Encouraging It

True. Using a what if against another isn't very "splendid." I figure it would be better to give examples than to naught, and what ifs would be the only examples I could give.

One such as "what if math kept on growing from the death of archimedes to the rediscovery of calculus by Isaac Newton?" Can't remember if it was archimedes or not actually, but that one guy.. you know.

And my brother's laugh is very creepy.

oh yeah

Agreed.. but instead, everyone shut up, until we put up.

Hopefully, this will be the last post until zatzai goes "Nerf evolved is released! *link"

Why.. you all lack so much faith.

But, me saying this might lead to me eating something I don't really want to eat. So uh..

Bendable?

Anyways..

1) the NIC, or whatever you people want to call it (non-existent for example.. which would mean that I'm posting to a bunch of robots! OH GOD NO!) only really needs one set of forums. Only one. Non.

2) the NIC wants content. I say they're stupid, but I honestly need things to do such as make content.

3) Nerf Evolved has content. Original content infact, Most of which I'm assuming you've never seen spoon. Unless you've been hacking the ftp or something.

4) Nerf Evolved's main goal is to provide content. The forums are just another way. And sure, it may not work, but theres still a chance that it may. Is there really any reason for you to make assumptions on something you haven't even seen yet? That's like saying your chistmas present is going to be a kitten.. saying it in July.

This is just a site. This is just the internet. This is just information.

Very good points, and yes, this site will be broken or force fed spinach depending on the user base. Which might suck.. Admittedly, I didn't join NHQ for a few months after it actually got popular. No way, I was keen with my nerf center.

Basically, what nerf evolved (which is really a more attracitve name then "nerf-farked.com") was created to do was to bring a mass of content, which some of us actually HID (this is where sandman is supposed to assassinate me) from the community for the last few months (or longer) and utilize forums to increase that amount beyond what our "all-star staff" could create. Not to say we don't want the forums used for other things.. such as apologizing to vacc for insulting his penis' tensile strength.

Anywho, yes, as sandman stated this content bit would be out faster if it weren't due to some technical issues. Hope for tommorow.
