Two things:

1.) My guest, Mak, fell asleep in the car and woke up and immediately said "Those HAMPs were awesome!" I think you guys made quite the impression on him.

2.) Apparently I look a little younger than I actually am. In all actuality a more accurate name for me would be Baby-Making-Gandhi [See Figure 1.]
I'm an old man.

Anyways, great war guys. I had a lot of fun.

I'm having the same problem with my alpha trooper not priming. Did you have any trouble getting the screw for the priming bar to thread into the bolt sled?

Do you have any pictures of how you did the petg barrels in the turret?

#309761 PETG Tightening Rings - AN ALTERNATIVE

Posted by BabyGandhi on 19 January 2012 - 11:31 AM in Modifications

It's used from packaging to bottles to medical applications.

Does this mean I have to worry about BPA? I've been using these things for straws ><

#309745 PETG Tightening Rings - AN ALTERNATIVE

Posted by BabyGandhi on 19 January 2012 - 03:44 AM in Modifications

I tried this out today and it works really well. The 2 pack of springs is only $3 and change at Lowes and the results are a lot more consistent than the ones I was getting with a rotary cutter.

In terms of the plastic holding up: I squeezed and flexed it a little bit and it felt like there might have been a 10% loss in... "structural integrity"? But I feel like the change was so small it could have just been my mind messing with me.

Great work MIG.

Yeah, my first attempt to use streamlines in an rscb with a petg barrel involved about an inch of cpvc at the beginning of the barrel. Some of the streamlines would work fine, others would be so tight the darts would rupture under the pressure and become jammed. This method handles the variance in streamlines darts much better.

Good call on the washer andtheherois. I've heard good things about the that technique, especially with brass. I haven't had any issues with cutting through the PETG with my regular rotary blade, but I also have a POS rotary cutter that I couldn't rely on to cut brass when it was brand new.

Lol dom... the only thing you've ever given me was a headache. I'm pretty sure the technique was given to me by venom or someone else respectable.

Yeah, I'm not sure how this would work if you weren't going to nest the petg in something else like PVC.
I just did a quick, sloppy test by flexing both a normal piece of petg and one with the tightening ring and they both seemed equally resilient.

Edited for grammar.

#309570 Petg Tightening Rings

So I didn't come up with this technique myself. Someone in Nerf IRC helped me out with it, although I don't remember who it was. I just wanted to post this so it would be easily found by others through the search function.

Anyways, down to business.

In order to do tightening rings in petg, slide a piece of brass, or some other snug, hard cylinder into the petg, just short of where you want your tightening rings. (This will prevent petg from simply flexing while you tighten down on it with your rotary cutter.) Use the cutter next to the brass, not directly over it and after your rings are formed simply remove your brass.

I personally find the tightening rings useful when using streamline darts, as they will otherwise slide right through the barrel.

Top is a piece of petg ready to get its tightening on.
Bottom is the final product.

Whoever gave me this technique should feel free to take credit. :-)

I highly recommend following the catch related steps in Zorn's overhaul:

I've done at least 10 quad shots with [k25] spring replacements and they all catch flawlessly following these methods.
