#284378 Double Mavericks In Action

Posted by dim3 on 30 August 2010 - 08:23 PM in Modifications

It's my experience that you don't really need the wings on the retaining ring. My Sprocket designs call for cutting one of the wings off, and even then, I decided to glue them in place, rather than put the screw in them. So you should be able to get away with just making the main hole, cutting off both wings, and gluing the retaining ring into whatever bracket you've got going on.

Yes, that works. With the first Maverick. I used base wood which was very easy to use, and why i included the wing screws. With the clear version. All i used was just the center gear part. it works great.

How did you get those sprockets? machine them? or are they commercialy(sp) avaiable?

EDIT@kitadrian: Would you be willing to sell them?
EDIT@dim3: How do you machine the screw holes and stuff in the back?

Hi gmzamz, no machine screws was used.

What I mean't was, how did you machine the back plate to allow the wings to sit in it flush?

this one is slightly different. The wings is not included. Just used the main center pivot gear.

Very well done. I would like to see how you made the over/under double turret.

He made a write-up a while ago. You need some 1/4" wood.

http://nerfhaven.com...topic=17302&hl= is the write-up in question.

I used his measurements to design sprockets for my own Tri-Cylinder:

Needs painting and a few other things... I've got plans for making it a Semi-Auto by merging it with a Magstrike and a hornet chamber... but that's still in the test phase. not going to hack into such a pretty thing until I'm sure it will work.

I like what you have done. Nice work

#250426 A Nice Add On For Your Nerf

Posted by dim3 on 14 September 2009 - 06:07 PM in Modifications

That looks pretty good, but how strong is polycarbonate exactly? I've never had experience with it. Will it hold if shot point blank from a titan? Not that it would ever happen, but I dont want to be the one to find out.

No, not with this mod. It would come off but the polycarbonate will act as a shield if it falls. Polycarbonate is strong.

#250367 A Nice Add On For Your Nerf

I have updated the mod. The first simple wire mod was the base of ideas. There's always room for improvements and i know that the first one looks unstable but it wasn't. Anyways, hope this helps.

Thanks

Posted by dim3 on 13 September 2009 - 01:17 AM in Modifications

You could always just make a removable or hinged polycarb case, and just leave a little hole for the camera to look through, of course the hole would be too small to have a dart fit through. But all in all really cool idea. Sadly I don't have an iPod Nano I just have the good ol' iPhone 3G. (I didn't feel it was necessary to upgrade to the 3GS, i am just gonna wait until 4G)

That's true, but i make simple mods so everyone can have a try. Adding those is too much work. But i am planing to improve this design. Wait about day or two.

Thanks

Well mine doesn't have a video camera on it anyway so I guess I can't do this. I thought that I had the newest nano but apparently I was wrong. What kind do you have?

When did you buy yours? This is the latest ipod nano 5th gen. Announced and released 9/9/09

Wow your video had great quality. That mod is sick for recording a battle, but when I'm nerfing I wouldn't want to risk breaking my I-pod.

Well, you can always improve the design and mount it more secured. But there will always be a risk.

Posted by dim3 on 13 September 2009 - 12:15 AM in Modifications

Okay!
Update, there is always a room for improvements. I had to start from a simple mod so i can have a visual on how to improve it. I used the ipod nano because its thin, compact, quality is decent and nice video filters. So here is a more secured and proper mod. I have also made some test and shot this mod 1 foot away and it kept its stance.

Item
Ipod nano 5G with video.

Materials
Polycarbonate
1 or 2 screws
Electrical tape

I painted it after(optional)

Now once you have inserted you ipod and its not a perfect fit, this is where the electrical tape comes in.
You can put electrical tape on the inside to make it more fit and firm it in place. i had put 7 layers on mine.

#250170 Simple Recon Mod.

Posted by dim3 on 11 September 2009 - 10:45 PM in Modifications

Nice. Much cleaner than most pump-action mods I've seen. Is the sight a little uncomfortable to use that way, though? Since it's so small.

It can be uncomfortable if you have big hands maybe. There is always room for improvements. You can use this mod to expand and add a better grips.

Thanks

#250169 Simple Recon Mod.

Dude your mods and writeups are awsome. First that beast maverick and now this, simple but effective. Where did you get the rod though?

You can get it at home depot. Some hobby stores have them too i think.

I like making easy mods yet effective and useful.

Thanks

#250075 Simple Recon Mod.

Posted by dim3 on 10 September 2009 - 05:29 PM in Modifications

Quality job simple kinda original i will do this if i can find that stupid sight.

How are the metal bars bent manually or some tool?

Manually, it will be tricky to bend so make sure you have extra.
Tip on bending- i bent mine against a metal shelf. Or look around your house for anything solid to bend on, wood tends to break sometimes. So hope that helps.

#250071 Simple Recon Mod.

Posted by dim3 on 10 September 2009 - 05:17 PM in Modifications

My brother has been bothering me with modding his recon. He wants to move the slider from the back to the front. He gave me a couple of ideas and designs which became complicated. So i told him, i will mod it and keep it simple.

Here is the mod.

Materials
1/4" solid aluminum rod
2 screws

1. Drill a 1/4" hole on the sides of the flip-up sight
2. Bend one side of the aluminum rod then insert it into the flip-up sight then bend the other side to lock it in place
3. Drill holes on the ends of the rod where you will screw it into the recon. i used screws i got from a maverick.

It should look something like this:

Posted Image
Posted Image

The hole i drilled on the flip-up sight wasn't perfect. So make your adjustments.
You will also want to make small bends on the rod to help it hug the recon. And don't forget to clear the bottom rail for full slide.
I have searched and found Gas Mask Guy's mod. similar but it requires more materials and money

Hope this helps others.

#245073 Maverick Double, Triple Barrel.

Posted by dim3 on 01 August 2009 - 08:59 PM in Modifications

Very cool!

I just finished copying the triple-cylinder. It came out pretty good.
Takes a lil' effort to get the nuts/washers spaced correctly.

One think I'd like to note though. In the diagram, the larger piece has all the edges flat. It cannot rotate the cylinders like that. I see in your photos you corrected it by making it into a point instead. I ended up rounding it off, myself.

Hope to see your triple barrel
post it here.

And thanks for noticing the rear barrel plate, those end must be pointed or rounded to allow it
to turn. Great job.

Thanks

Holy mavericks, that is absolutely awesome.

Also back to the mod, it should be easy to replicate because you have a good writeup.

The only problem is Split already did this.

yes. i did mention split.
its not really a problem
i thank split for his mod

#240318 Trimav

Posted by dim3 on 05 July 2009 - 05:03 PM in Modifications

i understand the alignment on that is a bitch, but there is an easy way.

Care to share it? Or do we have to wait a month.

Use a larger center rod like 1/4 inch.

have the back plate exactly at 1/4" hole

and at the front 3/8" hole

Having a larger hole in the front will allow you to align it easily when it clicks.

i have been doing 2 other mods beside the double mav,
that tri mod was also an upcoming mod, with also the quad, but quad is overkil.

great job

i understand the alignment on that is a bitch, but there is an easy way.

#203103 12 Darts Nerf Maverick

Posted by dim3 on 13 January 2009 - 04:28 PM in Modifications

That is pretty amazing. I've always wanted something like that, it's even better than the removable clip. Can't wait for the write-up.

If you set it up in a triangular way, couldn't you use 3 clips?

You can have it up to 4 clips

If you increase the radius that the turrets are set up on, you can make it however the hell many you want. I think three would look good damn sexy though.

I assume you're the guy who made this, from the similarity in names. Have any intention of doing a writeup for us?
How many tries did it take you, and what did you use as a pivot for the clips to swing around? Props for the work; like I said, it looks good.

yes. if i have time, make a writeup. just one try. you'll see how it pivots once i make a writeup. its very simple. the only hard part of it is making the parts fit.
