#338394 I'd like a suggestion.

Posted by Ozymandias on 21 April 2014 - 08:59 PM in Homemades

HAMP.

Ridiculously cheap & easy to build, you don't have to be svelte to use it, there's lots of configurations it can be built in, and you can shoot just as far as the pricier stuff after some practice.

#338330 What Happened to NerfRev?

Posted by Ozymandias on 20 April 2014 - 01:19 AM in General Nerf

Yah, it is a real shame the NRev collapsed. Much of Louice3 and many other's work is now lost forever. If the site is recovered. We could possibly post a read-only version in a forum, merging it with NH. On the bright side, now that NRev is down, nerfers aren't separated and now everyone has their ideas on one website.

Louice3's stuff is all on his photo-bucket. Off the top of my head, the only content on NRev that isn't on here or HvZ would be Louiec3's stuff (still on his photobucket), Taer's stuff (which no longer had photos anyway), Ragriz's Hoppered longshot, and Rogue's stuff on Longshots, which has been done by others so its not lost entirely. We lost the newsletters, so that blows.

I'll text Vincent periodically to see if he responds. My working theory right now is that he is actually a CIA operative, and that he is now deep undercover in Crimea.

So, big takeaway from this is, always have more then 1 admin on a forum.

RIP NerfHQ, NRev, and Soothsayer. Apparently, NerfHaven is the Highlander.

#338185 Stock dart diameters

Posted by Ozymandias on 10 April 2014 - 07:23 PM in Darts and Barrels

This might be old news, maybe not, but we have this thread on different stock darts from the HvZ forum. Might be useful to be using darts from the same production run.

How tall were the shooters?

#333708 Dart cartrige Belt

skeptiker, which store do you get it from?

Best I could find. OP's name is Skeptic in German, so I'm guessing this site.

I could not find a 'Merican equivalent. Shotgun shell bandolier with CPVC inserts, maybe.

#333472 Clothespin Sources?

Grainger

Google Shopping results page

Might want to get some verification on that link first; some come with the standard hollow bit, some come like this.

#332155 Front Page Update: July

Posted by Ozymandias on 20 July 2013 - 01:36 PM in News

The greatest number of posts on any single day was 439 on 2009-04-26.

Out of curiousity, can anybody think of what caused that? The raider and yellow-repaint of the longshot came out around that time, but besides that I can't think of anything.

Will the increased availability of 3D printing and modeling tools kickstart another homemades revolution in the NIC? - Submitted by Ice Nine

The main way I see this happening is as a prototyping 'lead-by-example', in other words Ryan & Kane make cool stuff then people figure out how to replicate it without the 3D printer. Example of what I'm getting at: the +bow beget the snapbow.

#331182 Centurion Vid

Posted by Ozymandias on 23 June 2013 - 04:09 PM in General Nerf

That was a big fucking lizard crawling on that wall in the background.

Welcome to Florida; You're off the edge of the map, mate. Here there be monsters.
Anyways, that is one of the Nerf PR Centurions in the vid. Presumably Langley/Talio/someone-at-NerfHaven should be getting one soon.

#327545 NDA Exclusive! New 2013 Nerf Mega Centurion

Posted by Ozymandias on 03 March 2013 - 02:36 PM in General Nerf

Also, can the front barrel come off? It looks like it might be detachable on the box...

I just about guarantee it.

The Recon, Longstrike, and Longshot all were packaged with the barrel off. It would take up wayyyy too much space if this thing was packaged 'complete'.

It should be fairly straight forward to convert this thing to micros. Hell, someone with a plastic printer could probably make conversion kits, as the Mega (Mongo?) Clip has a larger footprint then a micro clip.

#323825 Safety is always Important

Posted by Ozymandias on 22 November 2012 - 12:48 PM in General Nerf

I think the facebook thread on it was deleted, but I believe the offending dart was weighted with 2 washers. PRANS is establishing dart restrictions in response.

Not quite as bad as that guy who ruptured his ear drum at APOC, but still... ow.

#322938 Vote for NH's Next Avatar Pack

Posted by Ozymandias on 23 October 2012 - 02:31 PM in Off Topic

Although if you want to vote, you have to pick at least one from each grouping.

Question: since there are 27 options up there, could we have 9 per grouping with a 'None of the above option' in each one if we don't have a preference in that group? Or is that too overly complicated?

Many props to the mods who cobbled all that together.

#320470 How do you browse the forums?

The Forum index page (I am not a clever man.)

It keeps thing contextualized, for me at least.

#319816 The Official Internals Directory

Posted by Ozymandias on 03 August 2012 - 03:25 PM in Modifications

This post has some errors. Under 'Nerf' where it says elimenator, the picture is of reflex internals

That is because the reflex used to be known as the eliminator.

#319651 Nerf N-Strike Elite Retaliator - Mod Guide!

Those are Xplorer darts and not your usual calibrated darts, right?

Also, a mod guide on the brass breech would be awesome.

Awe inspiring photo quality as always.

#319206 Nerf Glossary/Jargon File

RSCB = Rawray7/ShortShit/CynicalSynapse/3DBBQ
HAMP = High Airflow Manual Plunger

#318099 Replacement Retaliator Springs

Posted by Ozymandias on 06 July 2012 - 09:16 PM in Modifications

I believe the 9637K32 could be a good replacement spring.

ID = .596 in.
OD = .72 in.
Compression Ratio/Deflection Rate = .752
Spring Constant = 1.69 lbs/in., which is about half that of a [k25].

#317979 The NIC Spring Database

Posted by Ozymandias on 04 July 2012 - 03:23 PM in General Nerf

Alright, finally got around to taking a screenshot of my excel chart of McMaster's 11in. 'Cut-to-Length Compression Springs'.

McMaster changed up the way they calculate spring constants since I made this, however the information is still accurate unless they changed the springs themselves.

The equations I use are courtesy of Zorn in the thread he mentioned up there.

The springs themselves are sorted by the max power of the fully compressed, whole spring.

I'm not saying this info is exact, but it should be close enough.

#317083 First annual Parabolic Toys contest!

Posted by Ozymandias on 16 June 2012 - 08:57 PM in Homemades

Probably the third category, though to be honest I don't see how you could do both in one mechanism.

A PulseStrike-esqe homemade, maybe.

Is there a cut-off date for officially entering this contest? I probably will, I'd just like to have something functional and up to par before you or I go through the expense of shipping something.

#316654 Reflex IX-1 Modification

You can also switch out the stock spring for a Recon spring.

#316591 Who's still around from the older nerf vets?

Posted by Ozymandias on 06 June 2012 - 01:19 AM in Off Topic

Wow, I haven't been on here in years. It's great to be back. Captain Slug, Forsaken, Itallionstallion, Carbon?

Capt. Slug is on hiatus due to responsibilities/time commitments, the other 3 are still here.

#316306 Airzone Ammo

Posted by Ozymandias on 30 May 2012 - 02:27 AM in General Nerf

Slight off-topic, but Prime Time Darts work in these blasters, as well as Power Strikes.

My only question is: where the <bleep> do you get extra Punisher belts?!

Contact Customer Service and wait. They take their sweet time, but its the only route to go besides amazon/ebay.

#316028 Barrel Materials Guide

Posted by Ozymandias on 22 May 2012 - 07:42 PM in Darts and Barrels

I'm not sure if all the links to hardware stores are correct, if someone could provide feedback, that would be great.

All the links work, if that is what you meant.

Thanks to both of you, excellent guide.

#315210 Cheap mobstacles

Posted by Ozymandias on 04 May 2012 - 06:08 PM in Homemades

Impressive. Its like pitching an old fashion tent, just with one wall.

If someone didn't want to use Duct Tape, they could use a Bi-pod lashing, which would save money with the tradeoff being longer set-up times.

#314292 "Optimal" 4B Barrel Length and Pain

Posted by Ozymandias on 11 April 2012 - 05:50 PM in General Nerf

Actually, if I remember right, our blasters are way more powerful than most airsoft guns, but our ammo is less efficient.

Depends on what metric you use.

I believe a nitefinder converted to shoot pellets is not allowed in airsoft because the muzzle velocity exceeds the limit for most fields.

Of course, that's neither here nor there, since comparing Nerf to airsoft is like comparing star wars to star trek while at a strip club: a poor use of time.

If the power of a 4B is really a make-or-break issue, an organizer could just mandate that they have a McMaster OPRV.

Edit: I think suction darts have a bit better fit then taggers in pvc, but I could be mistaken. Depends on the batch.

#312525 Vulcan "Overhaul"

Posted by Ozymandias on 06 March 2012 - 12:29 PM in Modifications

That setup looks a bit unwieldly with the giant cardboard box on one side and the trash can on the other. have you considered getting smaller boxes, possible cloth/wire boxes? by the way, has this had any problem with the added spring tension from the omw spring?

As far as box weight goes, HvZers have been using M1919 Browning machine gun ammo boxes for quite some time.

#311080 Homemade Rifle (Longshot-esque)

Posted by Ozymandias on 11 February 2012 - 09:18 PM in Homemades

Maybe you could do a Crossbow silhouetted blaster next?

From the original +bow thread:

Main Project Aim: Develop a homemade version of the Crossbow that has performance comparable to one modified to level 4.

On a similar note, if you haven't picked a name for this yet, might I suggest +shot?

#309874 SOPA/PIPA and the Site Blackouts

Posted by Ozymandias on 21 January 2012 - 01:18 AM in Off Topic

The Protecting Children from Internet Pornographers Act of 2011 has already made it through Committee. Fuck. Next up is a house vote.

It will require ISPs to keep a record of your internet usage for 18 months, the information can be accessed if you are suspected of any crime, and the police do not need probable cause.

I'm trying to track down the date it goes before a vote.

Edit: From CNET, "A last-minute rewrite of the bill expands the information that commercial Internet providers are required to store to include customers' names, addresses, phone numbers, credit card numbers, bank account numbers, and temporarily-assigned IP addresses, some committee members suggested. By a 7-16 vote, the panel rejected an amendment that would have clarified that only IP addresses must be stored."

Why is it the only time Congress can be bipartisan is when they're complete assholes?

#309799 SOPA/PIPA and the Site Blackouts

Posted by Ozymandias on 19 January 2012 - 07:11 PM in Off Topic

I wholeheartedly agree with this guy : Maddox's view.

Here is basically the problem with his idea: we've passed worse bills then this, with less fucks given.

The main thing that needs to happen is to convince normal people of all political viewpoints that this is a bad bill. Case in point, Glenn Beck has actually come out in opposition to SOPA, citing it as increased regulation (which, technically speaking, SOPA is).

Another option is getting rid of Smith himself. He has kept above 60% in his own district, but he might be forced out anyway. Texas is going to have to re- re-district after the DoJ told them they have to. Republicans hold the Texas house though, so Smith probably isn't going anywhere.

If this thing gos to the Supreme Court, we are truly fucked. They just ruled that Congress can take works out of Public Domain and put them back under copyright, so they probably would come down in favor of SOPA.

In it's current form, I think SOPA/PIPA would be vetoed, which means we need 34 Senators to be reliably against it to ensure it stays dead. We currently have 25 against, roughly 40 for it, and the rest are on the fence.

We're going into election season; make sure you and everybody you know gets registered, and find out where your representatives and senators stand on these bills.

#309742 SOPA/PIPA and the Site Blackouts

Posted by Ozymandias on 19 January 2012 - 02:34 AM in Off Topic

I know this has special meaning to some people (including me) so I am glad to see we could take part in this blackout. SOPA was canceled I believe so now its just PIPA.

SOPA was not cancelled. Smith will likely attach it to HR 1981, “Protecting Children from Internet Pornographers Act of 2011". In other words, support SOPA or you're a pedophile.

This is exactly how they (and by they I mean assholes on both sides of the aisle) passed indefinite detention of American citizens in section 1021 of the NDAA.

Time to head north.
