#86765 Finding Leaks

Posted by Formerly Sane on 08 August 2006 - 01:49 AM in General Nerf

yeah, make sure it's got some pressure in it so air is coming out.

ps. sorry, I know this is an old topic. I seriously haven't been on since July 13th though.

#84996 Finding Leaks

Posted by Formerly Sane on 13 July 2006 - 09:33 PM in General Nerf

It's been a while since I've been on here. I was looking at my old website and saw something that I thought I'd pass on to everybody. If you're looking for a leak, I found that a good way to locate it without submerging your gun is to use a regular drinking straw. Stick one end in your ear (not too far, just enough to hear through it) and move the other end slowly over the area where the suspected leak is. This is far more accurate than just using your ear, since that only narrows it down to a few square inches. The straw method will place you pretty much right on the leak. Anyway, I thought that was worth telling people. Glad to see that people are still nerfing.

#58704 Live 8

Posted by Formerly Sane on 04 July 2005 - 10:15 PM in Off Topic

I guess this will at least focus media cover on the 8 people who are...going to do whatever their going to do. Well, it didn't raise awareness with me. It's harder than it seems to save millions of people. Even if we did have a bunch of money, you can't exactly give it to the governments of those people. Do you think the governments are going to use it all for food? Hell no. You can't save the world by playing music. But if they wanted press coverage and attention, I guess they got it.

#57735 Pistols Or Rifles?

Posted by Formerly Sane on 18 June 2005 - 12:57 PM in General Nerf

I voted rifles because usually I'll be using an AT3000, BBB, or SM1500. I like being able to shoot someone and not have to be right up ontop of them. Plus, I guess I'm not the best modder out there, so pistols have never really shot more than 50 feet for me. I hear all of these people saying that their TT or NF can get 70 feet, but that's more like what I get with my BBB. I don't know, I'm just more of a haha-you're-running-from-me-but-I-can-still-peg-you-in-the-back-from-60-feet kind of guy.

#56330 Lost A Job

Posted by Formerly Sane on 01 June 2005 - 09:17 PM in Off Topic

Logically, it would make more sense to cut your hair. But I know what you mean about cutting it off after having it for so long. After a while you kind of feel like it's part of your identity. It all depends on how much you really want this job. If it's worth a few weeks of looking different and getting used to your lack of hair, go for it. I understand how hard it would be to cut it though. My hair is a few inches past my eyes, and I can't imagine cutting back to "normal length". My head would feel so empty. Think of it this way. Would it be easier for you to live without your job, or without your hair? Whatever works for you, I guess.

#55914 Dance Dance Revolution

Posted by Formerly Sane on 28 May 2005 - 10:37 PM in Off Topic

I would avoid all of these complicated plans and expensive pads and just duct tape on of the soft thin ones to the floor. I have two and even though one is about half as thick as the other one, they both work fine taped to the floor.

#54806 Blowguns

Posted by Formerly Sane on 13 May 2005 - 04:34 PM in Homemades

What is the average range for these blow guns? Whenever I've tried to blow a dart out of PVC, I only end up getting 20-30 ft.

#53955 What Colors Does Fbr Come In?

Posted by Formerly Sane on 01 May 2005 - 04:04 PM in General Nerf

Now I'm a BIG fan of nite wars outside, and we have serious trouble finding the darts. Would the darts still work if I sprayed with a little glow-in-the-dark spray paint? If not, what would go wrong?

Okay, I know we weren't supposed to take this topic too far so I'll try to make this my last post in this one. I tried to spraypaint my darts orange, but the paint just doesn't cover the whole outside of the dart. A painted dart becomes stiff, and dried paint dust comes off whenever you put a stefan in your barrel. After a few weeks of use, the paint came off completely and in the process it got all over my hands, guns, clothes, and floor. In short, sounds like a great idea but it does not work at all. Go for colored FBR or just surrender to the mindset of, "I have another 80' of FBR, who cares if I lose 10% of my darts?".

#53945 Holsters Or Straps?

Posted by Formerly Sane on 01 May 2005 - 03:50 PM in General Nerf

Now hold on, we're arguing about whether playing skill or modification skill is more important in a nerf war? Sounds like they're about equal to me. I honestly don't see any credible reason to argue this point.

#53930 What Colors Does Fbr Come In?

Posted by Formerly Sane on 01 May 2005 - 03:07 PM in General Nerf

www.aloghomestore.com is where I got mine. They sell the black kind. I believe it's only about 3 or 4 dollars for 50' of FBR. I bought 100' and it should last me another year or so. Someone on this site sells pink FBR, although it's a little expensive, it is way easier to find your darts. Oh yeah, don't try spraypainting your darts orange so you can find them easier. It doesn't work (learned that the hard way <_< ).

#53926 Holsters Or Straps?

Posted by Formerly Sane on 01 May 2005 - 02:48 PM in General Nerf

I voted for strap, but now that I think of it I sometimes use a kind of holster. I have one strap that I'll use on my blastfire, BBB, or SM1500 if I feel the urge to carry a side arm. My sidearm (if I carry one, which is rare) goes in my pocket, but occasionally I use a sony pouch that is supposed to be used to carry a CD player and CDs. One pocket can be used to hold darts, the other for a sidearm, and the whole pouch held over a shoulder. I usually only use one gun though, it makes things so much simpler.

#53917 At2k Strange Happenings

Posted by Formerly Sane on 01 May 2005 - 01:20 PM in Modifications

With me, my guns that use pressurized air smoke after it's rained or if it is especially humid outside. I was also quite surprised when this first happened.

#51967 My Mounted Machine Gun

Posted by Formerly Sane on 08 April 2005 - 05:06 PM in Modifications

Wow, those all look really nice! The copper clip on the side of the SSII is a very good idea. I might have to try that with a few of my guns. What barrel do you use on the bbb to get 120 ft? And that razorbeast is fucking awesome. How fast does that shoot? And 45 ft isn't too bad for something with 100 shots. That would definately rule in an indoor war. Good job on all of those.

#51753 Does Anyone Here Remember Me?

Posted by Formerly Sane on 06 April 2005 - 05:44 PM in General Nerf

I remember you. Was it you who said they were leaving nerf to focus more on guitar? I don't know, but I was "Endor73" on NO and I think I was "Formerly Sane" on NC, I can't remeber if you were around on that. Welcome back, or at least temporarily if you're not planning to dive back into the nerf community. As for the zero ball valve, I never really tried one, it seemed way too complicated for me. I suppose it would work, but I personally would try to find something pre fabricated that would hold up better. And hey, what was your site again?, I'm not sure if I ever visited there or not.

#51476 Favorite Band

Posted by Formerly Sane on 03 April 2005 - 02:35 PM in Off Topic

Blink 182 and Alien Ant Farm are very awesome. And I like saves the day too. When my brother was going around searching for colleges, saves the day was playing a free concert in Bucknell's gym. The funny thing was, I saw part of that show before I even knew who they were. But...yeah, Blink 182 and AAF. Alien Ant Farm seemed to get out into the public eye for about a week with their michael jackson cover, but their original songs are really good too. And people might say blink 182 is pop or sold out or whatever, but I don't really care. My favorite songs by them would probably be Wasting Time, Lemmings, Anthem, and Shut Up. Those were good.

#51322 Your Pope Died.

Posted by Formerly Sane on 01 April 2005 - 09:44 PM in Off Topic

First Terry Schivo or how ever you spell her name: I think keeping people alive on machines is fine if you think the person will recover. But she had been practically dead for 15 years, and there wasn't really any hope that she would recover. And all keeping her alive did was waste money and who knows, if she was in fact able to think I doubt she would want to be locked inside her body like that for 15 years without being able to talk or move anyway. I guess it's hard to let your daughter go if someone wants to let her die, but sometimes you have to make tough decisions like that. So, I guess it's unfortunate that that whole thing happened, but keeping her alive like that just wasn't logical.

And as for the pope, I'm catholic and I'm sad that he's in this condition, but after reading this thread it all kind of makes more sense. I mean, most people should fear dying because they don't know if they're going to heaven or hell yet, but he's the pope. He pretty much knows he's going. So if you look on the bright side of things, it's really not that bad that he'll be gone soon.

There's my 2 cents. Don't spend it all in one place.

#51251 Broken Sm1500 Plunger Shaft

Posted by Formerly Sane on 01 April 2005 - 11:27 AM in Modifications

Yeah, I've been trying to keep this thing together for a few months and super glue, hot glue, and plummers goop all seemed disconnect after a few hundred pumps. I guess I'll go pick up some of that epoxy because overkill is my goal here. Thanks everybody!

#51230 Broken Sm1500 Plunger Shaft

Posted by Formerly Sane on 31 March 2005 - 10:51 PM in Modifications

The last inch or so of the plunger shaft of my sm1500 has broken off and I can't seem to make a permanent fix. Does anyone know what the best thing to attach it back on with is?

#51027 Paintball

Posted by Formerly Sane on 29 March 2005 - 02:07 PM in Off Topic

I voted for "haven't played but dislike it anyway". I don't really dislike it, but I'm just broke.

#50935 Nerf Websites

Posted by Formerly Sane on 28 March 2005 - 08:54 PM in General Nerf

www.cyclonenerf.netfirms.com
Well, there's mine. I haven't really updated it in over a year, but maybe I'll change it this summer.

#50121 I Just Wet Myself

Posted by Formerly Sane on 20 March 2005 - 08:46 PM in General Nerf

Those look like they will be really good at first, but they look a little bit flimsy, which means low power. I can't really see getting more than 10 or 15 feet out of them.

#45252 Happy New Years

Happy New Year Nerf Haven! Hope yours is better than mine. Now time to think of a New Years resolution to break.

#45022 Merry Christmas

Posted by Formerly Sane on 28 December 2004 - 06:58 PM in Off Topic

I think the reason that most girls like diamonds is dependent on the price. Think about it, if you give somebody a diamond then it shows that you're willing to sacrifice lots of your money to show that you love her. If it was me, I would be more satisfied with something I could use. I would enjoy a trip to some exotic place way more than a tiny rock.

Back on subject, for Christmas I got a sony atrac3 plus CD player, Almost round 3 DVD, the (almost) new AAF CD, Nirvana greatest hits, ddr ultramix 2, a mini battery powered marshall amp, a george bush punching bag(which me and my friend broke after we abused it much more than the manufacturers intended), and a few other cool things. Merry late Christmas everyone!

#40807 Election 2k4

Posted by Formerly Sane on 04 November 2004 - 08:03 PM in News

I am worried that Bush will start another war in his second term. Think about it, we had 2 wars in 4 years. The middle east is being bombarded with the United States trying to shove democracy down their throats. We really need to step back and let them do their own thing. The United States should not start a war. Bin Laden (who seems to be out of the spotlight now that sadaam has become pop culture) should really be our #1 enemy. How did our offensive focus switch to Sadaam instead of Osama who killed 2000 people on american soil just 3 years ago? The latest tape showed Bin Laden's reasons for the attack in the first place, which he says are still evident. The war in Iraq seems to have made America even more unsafe. I know Bush will be gone in 4 years, but during that time will we face even more death, hate, and war?

I'm moving to antarctica.

#38930 Procrastination

Posted by Formerly Sane on 13 October 2004 - 09:58 PM in Off Topic

I was on NO for a few months before it died, then went to NC for a while. I guess a month or two before those forums also closed I moved here. I looked around for a few days first and liked the attitude of the forums here. After NC closed though, I wasn't sure whether to go here or to NHQ. Thank God I chose Nerf Haven.

Wow, member numbers are over 1000 now? It seemed like I was joining late in the game. NH has really grown.

#38399 Amps

Posted by Formerly Sane on 05 October 2004 - 05:18 PM in Off Topic

The amp is rated at 30 watts per channel, two channels. Therefore, assuming it has two speakers, they get 30 watts each.

So basically it's as loud as a 60 watt amp right? I was never sure whether 2 speakers each producing 30 watts would be as loud as a single speaker producing 60. And although it may look like it, I'm not entirely infatuated with volume, this thing has a huge range of different sounds it can produce too. I'm just still not sure about that one fact.

#38337 Amps

Posted by Formerly Sane on 04 October 2004 - 05:41 PM in Off Topic

First of all, I've been away for away and its good to be back. It looks like I missed a very annoying troll, so at least I have good timing.

Anyway, my birthday is nearing, and I believe I will be getting a new guitar amp. I just have one question: If an amplifier has a wattage of 2x30 watts, does that mean each speaker pumps out 30 watts, or that the amp actually produces 60? I can't seem to find anyone who knows. I'm looking at the one in the Behringer V-Tone line. Help would be appreciated.

#38336 Porn?

Posted by Formerly Sane on 04 October 2004 - 05:35 PM in Off Topic

On the show Myth Busters they disproved that myth. Though it was highly unscientific, I still agree with them and doubt that the small spark from a static charge could ignite gasoline.

#36702 Modding A Bbb

Posted by Formerly Sane on 08 September 2004 - 06:00 PM in Modifications

Well, your problem is definitely with one of those small springs. Make sure they're all there and replace them with the best fit if you have to. Also see if the trigger is all the way foreward when you cock it. If it sticks back after you pull it, try lubricating the orange trigger mechanism with WD40. Thats all I can really think of, hope it helps.

#36540 Modding A Bbb

Posted by Formerly Sane on 06 September 2004 - 01:29 PM in Modifications

When you go to cock it, is there alot of pressure like you can feel the spring stretching but it just doesn't catch? Or does it just slide out? If you can feel the spring stretching but it doesn't catch, then you may have forgotten to put in the orange squares with the little pegs that come out of them. These go on either side of the gun and you can see them sticking out of the side. Or maybe you didn't put the springs in with these. Without those two pieces, the catch mechanism won't work right.

If you can't feel the spring stretching when you cock it, try looking at the inside tip of the gun. Make sure the orange plunger tube is held in place right. Hope one of these solutions helps.

#35193 Nerfcenter

Posted by Formerly Sane on 25 August 2004 - 06:19 PM in General Nerf

It's good to hear NC will finally be getting some reviews on more recent guns. I think everyone relys on the NC reviews in some degree. I've always viewed it as a valuable resource to the NIC. How will the NC archives be displayed on Nerf Haven though? Can you find posts from that site mixed with old posts from Nerf Haven or will there be a seperate NC archives section to the site?

#35188 Toning Down The Titan

Posted by Formerly Sane on 25 August 2004 - 05:58 PM in Modifications

It seems easier to do ten pumps than to do twenty with an added air restricter. I guess you like the shotgun idea though. How's that working out?

#34909 Custom Hornet Prototype

Posted by Formerly Sane on 22 August 2004 - 08:51 PM in Modifications

I don't have the hornet, but unless the pump goes all the way back to the stock, the mod would be possible. But you are removing the ability to hook it up to the titan, which would seem to hurt the gun's potential. Also, making it smaller isn't too much of an advantage, as it still wouldn't be quite small enough to make it useful as a sidearm. You would have one awesome hornet though, so if you want to go for it.

Edit: Didn't see thirst's post when I posted. Where did you find the internal pics?

#34357 Can The Warthog Be Moded?

Posted by Formerly Sane on 18 August 2004 - 08:17 PM in Modifications

You can modify any nerf gun. In the case of the warthog, change the barrels and band mod it.

#34144 Ebay

Posted by Formerly Sane on 16 August 2004 - 09:19 PM in Off Topic

You would think that after an item's price got up so high, people would have the common sense to stop their bidding. Behold the insanity.

#33118 Brass Vs. Other Barrels

Posted by Formerly Sane on 04 August 2004 - 02:11 PM in General Nerf

If one person does a mod and you choose not to, its not the other person's fault that their weapon is more superior, its your fault for not taking the oppportunity. Now if materials are limited and you cannot fully take advantage of all of your weapon's potential, then make up for it in your tactics and strategies.

#32101 Who Would Buy Colored Backer Rod?

Posted by Formerly Sane on 22 July 2004 - 03:12 PM in General Nerf

So the price would be $5 for 20'? I like the idea of colored foam so I may order enough for maybe 100 darts, but I'd rather pay $6 for 100' of FBR from aloghomestore.com even if I do have to keep making darts when I lose them. Good job giving back to the nerf community though.

#29923 Nite Finder Ppk W/maglite

Posted by Formerly Sane on 29 June 2004 - 10:33 PM in Modifications

Good job, that is one nice Nite finder. I dont think any gun is ever complete without a nice paintjob. The mag light does look a little loose though. Techno Dann, that override switch sounds like a great idea. The ability to conceal your position or use a light to blind/spot your opponent would be a great advantage. Putting the switch in would be a simple matter of cutting the wire and soldering it on, only taking a few minutes. I really need to get a nite finder now.

#29821 Anyone In A Band?

Posted by Formerly Sane on 28 June 2004 - 10:00 PM in Off Topic

I play guitar in our band called Skwal. Its me and a really good drummer and a rhythmically challenged bassist. He only started playing a month or two ago, so I hope he'll get better. We only got together once, but we wrote a song that actually sounds decent. Summer vacations pretty much destroyed every chance of getting together to write more again before mid august, but I'm writing some on my own so if we compose as quickly as we did that first practice, we might be able to rent out the school gym before school or something. Does anyone else have recordings of themselves or their band playing? I'd like to hear some.

#29393 More Love From Hasrbo

Posted by Formerly Sane on 24 June 2004 - 10:51 AM in General Nerf

I don't really think silencers are very useful. If you're nerfing most likely you won't need to conceal your location as you'll be right in the face of your opponent. Plus air guns are almost silent already.

I'm kind of wondering, do hornet and scout use Micros or megas? And I'm still concerned about the size of the plunger tube on the scout. Think about it, if the gun does cock like an sm250 or at1000 then the plunger tube can only be half the length of the gun minus the barrel. I'm still excited about this line though, finally we have nerf actually integrating in stock blasters. Who knows what could be next.
