I'm not that interested in Gears of War, but I must admit that it has the best trailer I've ever seen for a video game. The music is what really does it: Gary Jules, Mad World. The same version of the song was used in Donnie Darko to great effect.

Dude, what the hell are you talking about. That's the worst trailer for a game I've ever seen.
Donnie Darko = best movie ever
Gears of War = awesome

Donnie Darko + Gears of War = total crap.

If you guys haven't seen the gameplay for this game check it out before watching that trailer.

So far it shoots about 300' with the mega missles, 50 pumps with the bike pump, and a 10 degree angle.

How did you measure this? I'm sorry to say that nerf guns with bigger tanks and better valves have not acheived 300 feet at a 10 degree angle with heavily weighted nerf micros. No offence, but I am skeptical. Try shooting it across a football field (300 feet).

Nice job, nevertheless. Looks pretty sweet.

It is not full auto. It is not semi-auto, either.

You pump the large tank, pull the back ball valve to fill the small tank, close the valve to seal off the large tank from the small tank, and pull the front valve to fire off a shot. Then you load another dart and repeat the process. At most you would be able to get off a dart every 2 seconds.

3DBBQ's valves are just metal ball valves (at least they look like that). You can find them in the same section as PVC.

Sam, you can buy ball valves at almost any hardware store. Metal ones are quite easy to find, as well as PVC ones.

Nerfer34 (a while back), you can also get check valves at almost any hardware store. The ones I've seen look slightly different, but the purpose is the same.

You're going to have a hell of a time getting a seal between the trigger rod and the valve casing. I would suggest putting an oring around the trigger rod, then putting it into a smaller pipe.

Your rear trigger might not work, because the pressure might push the trigger back if the seals weren't quite perfect, but the first one is a good design.

Ball valves can mess up accuracy, but the main reason they are extremely erotic is that you lose a lot of range when you use them. Since ball valves open so slow, the dart is out of the barrel before you've turned it 1/4 on. The smaller internal diameter, the less air can go pass, the less range you get. It is important that a valve opens extremely fast to increase the air flow at the beginning of the shot.

I assume it's spring powered, since you refered to the BS-4. I would recommend the clothespin trigger made by Carbon. I have one sitting 6 inches away from my left hand, but haven't been able to make a nerf gun to go with it. :rolleyes:

One clip is held in the back for storage (for little kids who wear shorts without pockets :ph34r:

). Each clip holds 6, you say, so you have to switch clips after 6 shots. You can say the gun holds 12, but you could also say the firefly holds 16 (ammo holders).

It would be able to hold more pressure, but you wouldn't need it to unless you're making your gun out of copper or some other metal that holds more pressure than PVC.

Ball valves are not so good, sprinkler valves can be expensive, and hose valves can be better. As I said, piston valves are the best valves, but otherwise a hose valve would be the easiest.

The best option, in my opinion, is a piston valve. It opens incredibly fast, has a very large ID, and isn't too hard to make. The only drawback is that it's not well-documented and is not a good choice for a first time homemade builder.

Well, you could try looking at the post above yours. Springs are usually in pound pulls (e.g. 60 pound pull). You can order custom springs from the spring section on McMaster. Don't search for it, just click on the link from the main page and it will show you sommore links that will limit your results to what you're looking for.

He said with 1 pump from a bike pump. With enough to max out pressure, 200 could be acheived, but there's no way 1 bike pump can propel a nerf dart 200 feet... Unless your bike pump is insane.

How did you measure ranges? I'm tired of people saying "200 feet" when they haven't even measured it.

1 pump from a bike pump into 4 feet of 4" PVC will make less than 5 PSI. There is no way in heck that you can get 200 feet with a ball valve homemade with 5 PSI in the tank, even with a tank that big.

I would have to say... possibly. I would make the chamber bigger if I was making it.

I finished an airsoft homemade with a hose handle and it works very well.

Any airsoft homemade is going to work very well compared to manufactured guns. A nerf gun could shoot a BB 120'+. Hose handles won't let the air out as fast, but the valve will be comfortable to hold.

20-40? That's ridiculously low for an air pressure homemade. What size is your chamber? Barrel?

He's right about the size and pressure, though. Take a look at 3DBBQ's homemades for examples of ball valve homemades. Most of those probably get about 50'-60', but with a larger PC, you should be able to get 100'.

Takes too much time to reload. Unless you can come up with a good clip for it.

Not to add to the off topicness, but I doubt that's the reason because it would be pretty easy to make a clip or turret for one (just use large shells).

Yellow, try sanding the PVC into a cone where you stick the darts in.
