#259711 Heavyweight Mod
Posted by slowguitarman on 24 December 2009 - 02:59 PM in Modifications
Wow, okay...let me be the first to say this surprisingly. Why the fuck would you make your gun heavier? That's the opposite of the right thing to do.
Making a gun heavier or lighter isn't about right and wrong. It's personal preference. I like a heavier feel, but I personally like there to be a reason for that feel. My Domsayer is fairly heavy, but it's because there's a lot of wood and metal on it/in it. Seems like a kinda weird idea to me, but to each his own.

#258709 Stefan Compatible Raider Drum Clip

Correct me if I am wrong but the reason for step 8 is to get rid of the feed from the back problem that several people have pointed out. He cuts the clip lock in a mirrored position on the other side so with it in backwards the front is the back and the back is the front.
That's what step 8 says, and not what the pictures show (and we all know that theoretical nerf modding tends to fail). Also problems with that solution are 1) an improperly cut slot means the mag becomes wobbly, increasing feed issues 2) jam fixing nub is on the wrong side, and even stock mags jam and 3) now your opponent gets to see how many darts you have left.
1) Improperly doing anything is bad, so it's a possible fault with the modder, not the mod.
2) Reach around to the other side. It isn't that far.
3) Does it matter? I personally can't use an LS that has the drum (or even an extra supermag) popping out to the left. It's in the way of my arm. Also, how many shots you have left in a drum should be the least of your opponents worries.

Ex: It was 40* outside with a slight breeze at my back. I fired five level shots using stefans weighted with 3/0 lead fishing weights:
50'
57'
55'
60'
52'
There really is no standard that can be used because most people use different foam and different weights and styles of making darts, and ranges depend on those things and a lot of others. Just be sure to give all the info about firing, and you should be fine.
EDIT: Thanks K9 and Carbon, I knew that I'd forget something.

Yep, you could out-dremel me with one arm tied behind your back.
Read what it says below his name. He did do this with only one arm.
Jlego, this is bloody good work. I thought I was pretty slick with a Dremel, but you did a very nice job on that PVC cutting.
#254273 How To Resurrect A Crossbow
Posted by slowguitarman on 21 October 2009 - 08:55 PM in Homemades
Great, but you might want to cut off a little of that wood off the back end of the stock,(looks like oak), or it'll get tiring holding it during a long nerf war. It looks unbalanced, is it like way off or it it barely anything? Other wise amazing!!!!!!
It's better to have your gun unbalanced towards the back because your shoulder will hold it up, and it'll make you more accurate. I don't understand why people whine so much about weight. If carrying 4lbs. instead of 3 wears you out, then you need the exercise.

But how did you make it to where it doesnt take both of the darts.
Reading the thread is a good start towards finding answers.

Spring suggestion: if you have a Double Shot waiting to be ripped apart and made into Stubby Gun, the springs that push the stock shells back against the air holes might have that right strength. AND there are two!
However, machining your own springs does have a certain DIY appeal.
The DS springs are big enough around to allow a stock darts to go through, which means that they won't fit inside an LS mag. I also figure that they're too strong.

That's really cool, SGM.
Do you have any gun porn of your LS? Seems to be a fairly nefarious blaster, would love some details.
It's just a reinforced LS with an LS/BBB/RFSG spring combo and angel breech. It's not anything really special. It's only scary because I run around a lot at wars, so I can take out lots of people very quickly.

This is a very good idea, could you have a pic of them loaded? (as good as possible)

I suppose. I'll post one in a few minutes. Check the first post.

Thanks, thats very cool, I hope you get a good spring for them. The RFR sping might work, I've help a tek clip clip spring, and I am pretty sure they are the same, It isnt that strong.
[/quote]
Even if it isn't "that" strong, it will likely be too strong for this. RFR mags have shells to protect the darts from being squished. In the LS, the spring has to be strong enough to push the dart up without smashing it.

Like the design. The only problem that I can see is that you can only hold 1.5" darts. The original Angel breech was designed for use with 1.75" darts. Without revision, The back darts (that are not in use) could get jammed and thus ruin the darts. From your pics, this isn't a problem for you (Your darts seem to be 1.5"). This would just be a pain in the ass (Like dubcwill and his lack of grammar) for those who copied Angel's mod exactly as he had it. Honestly, I have no idea. I'm just predicting.
If my memory serves me right, several LS AR springs glued together should suffice.
Yeah, you have to use short darts, but short darts are fine. I've been using them since I started nerfing. Ask anyone from Canada. I get quite a lot of kills with them.
I have no clue what you're trying to say about the darts jamming and getting ruined. Nothing is going to happen to the darts in the back part. They will sit there until they're needed. Also, the Angel Breech was made for darts up to 2.2" in length. Why would it matter if one uses 1.25" or 2.1" darts? Answer: it doesn't.
Also, LS springs would likely be too weak.
Pretty nice innovation. Might I recommend using the spring from an RFR Clip or even from a spiral-bound notebook? Those might be decent for this project.
Thanks. The rfr spring would likely be too strong, but I have never felt one. Spiral notebook thing would be way too strong.

#253537 Double-capacity Standard Size Ls Mag
Posted by slowguitarman on 14 October 2009 - 05:43 PM in Modifications
So after you're out of rounds, you take the mag out and twist it? Wouldn't your breech have to only come out to half the clip length?
Ever made an Angel Breech? The back part of the breech blocks the back of the mag enough to hold the darts on the unused side from being loaded.

Posted by slowguitarman on 14 October 2009 - 05:37 PM in Modifications
The idea behind this is to double the amount of ammo you can carry. If the right springs were found, a douple LS mag could hold up to 28 shots, but even 10 per side would allow for 20 shots, so if you made two of them, you'd have 40+ shots on tap before needing to reload.
Here are some pictures of a normal LS mad modded to hold 12 darts. It works, but the springs are too weak for it to work properly.
If you don't understand from the pictures, you have to shoot 6 shots and then flip the mag around the other direction. You then have another six shots.

Oh well, A video game is a great way to turn a kid onto firearms. I'm just warning, if the parent(s) go(es) this direction, the son might end up like this one. Hopefully that never happens.
I have to chime in too. Videogames and guns don't cause kids to die. Stupid parents cause kids to die. I have been shooting guns since I was about 5 years old, and I knew to only shoot when I was with my dad, and I knew exactly how they worked and that they weren't toys. Gun education saves lives.

#249771 How Much Will This Increase Range?
Posted by slowguitarman on 06 September 2009 - 05:36 PM in Modifications
Replacing the trigger spring (or putting hotglue on the stock spring) won't increase range. It is done to make it easier to pull the trigger faster because it takes all the "play" out of the movement of the trigger. If you do that, as soon as you start to pull the trigger, air will start coming out of the tank. Of course it depends on what spring you put in it or if you hotglue the existing spring, but that is the general idea of doing it.
As for replacing the spring inside the tank....why would you ever do that unless you're doing a tank expansion like I did with the AT10K? I have never heard of anyone doing that, and there is really no reason to open the tank, replace the spring and then put it back together.
