#346393 Nerf Crossbolt Minus The Crossbow Arms

Posted by SixShot on 22 April 2015 - 09:00 PM in General Nerf

I must say, the refined version looks very delicious. As far as misfirings and dart mangling, how often do they happen with the heat shrink on the string? And also, I guess I have to ask, what are the ranges without arms?

So far it is rare.

I did further tests meself.

The tension of the elastic band has a close relationship with the darts.
Too tight, darts gets mangled.

So need to lessen the tension.

Also, one might need to remove most of the safety locks to allow the provision of lessen tension.

I managed to hurl a stefan close to 25 meters with a tight tension.
Interestingly, stefans ( maybe due to the small size ) do not get mangled easy.
Whereas regular nerf darts ( it is flaccid in a way) gets mangled easy.

I used a third party dart with denser foam, the dart flew 20 plus meters and hit the side of a passing car ( I was trying out in a car park) with "TING" sound.

Lucky the driver didn't come out and see, he just drove on.

I refined the "Armless" Crossbolt (sort of) over the weekend.

Added nut/bolt and arcylic plates to it.

Used "Heat-shrink" insulation to the area which the elastic band and dart contacts to lessen the amount of darts mangled. :D

Okay

This is what I did.

Following the suggestion,

I got a plastic knob to hold and tension the elastic cord.
Wrapped thinly with E-tape the area which the cord and the dart will contact with.

This will lessen the jam.

Also here is the kicker; the stock darts as compared to FDLs jam easy. They are flaccid somewhat. :P

The third party darts like Fer De Lance V2 with the denser foam works with minimal problem.

Hi all

I got the Nerf Crossbolt just not too long ago.

The Bay Area Nerf guys inspired me to mod the "crossbow-armless" Cross bolt.
Here is the video:

For some reason, when I take it for test firing.

The elastic cord will go under or above the dart instead of launching the dart out.

1 have already mangled like 3 darts from that alone.

Is that something I am missing out ?

Here is the pic for referance:

I also have a second Crossbolt for control.
That one is set up without any mods.

It fires with problem at all.

Seems to me like the elastic cord has been tensioned / calibrated with the crossbow arms or is it ?

I am open for suggestion for this one :)

#323837 Safety is always Important

I will be stepping into the Relevant Nerf players' community to advise on the safety issues.
This needless pursuit must be restrained ( in local SG context).

That looks terrible. I'm sorry this happened to Loony.

About how much does a dart weighted by two washers weigh? I'd guess about 1.5 grams. I want to know so I can calculate an estimated KED for tooth damage. KED is the measure of dart safety Hasbro uses.

That is useful. I like it ! :)

I think the facebook thread on it was deleted, but I believe the offending dart was weighted with 2 washers. PRANS is establishing dart restrictions in response.

Not quite as bad as that guy who ruptured his ear drum at APOC, but still... ow.

That is like getting hit by 2 nickels. Ouch !

What kind of tips were you guys using? That looks like a cool place to Nerf, what is it and how do you arrange places like it?

I am not sure. I think it was a Stefan, maybe weighted by some hard stuff.

For most part, we used a variety from nerf darts to stefans.

It is a Community Center made by the Civil administration. We just tell the Admins in charge and then do some paper work to fill up.

It is a place where people in town get together for games and social events locally.

Last Sunday's Nerf war in SG was The Pen-Ultimate War ever locally.

Someone got his tooth shot off by a Doomsayer.

Remember as always, Safety is Number ONE in every Nerf War.

Wear Goggles and the necessary protections.

Here is the clip.
Forward to 4.25

Sorry about expletives in the clip though.

Loony is the unfortunate one. He is now at Dentists' fixing his missing tooth.

Never ever throw caution into the wind.

#321500 Nerf article @ Wired.com

Posted by SixShot on 10 September 2012 - 05:41 AM in Off Topic

Hi guys, did you read this ?

http://www.wired.com...s-for-kids/all/

Look at these words below which is published in the article:

Custom Darts
Hardcore Nerf-heads make their own more streamlined ammo, using foam or PVC or even brass tubing. Homebrew darts are called “stefans,” named after pioneering modder Stefan Mohr.

What ? Brass tubing or PVC ? No way, man ! ( As far as I know about darts, that is)

Mix and Match
Neon-green-and-orange weaponry just doesn’t look dangerous. If you cobble together pieces of a Longstrike CS-6, a Raider CS-35, and a Recon CS-6, then repaint this agglomeration, you’ll have a reasonable facsimile of an AK-47 assault rifle with a banana clip.

Are you sure that is even possible ?

No offense to all, I personally say that is so way off and misleading.

#312598 Eye Protection Is Key

Posted by SixShot on 09 March 2012 - 06:29 AM in General Nerf

When I am the organiser for Nerf wars, I always insists on eye protection.

I personally encountered 2 cases of Black eye from Doom-Sayer and a Signal Launcher from 2 separate wars.

It is like getting punched when hit straight in the face ( be it a dart or stefan).

I led by example by getting ESS polycarbonate pair of spectacles.

"No eye protection, No play"

I am sorry.

I named it in honour of the "Sabot" projectile.

It was never meant to be taken literally.

Again, I apologise if I have offended anyone accidentally.

#306363 The "Sabot" Dart

Posted by SixShot on 23 October 2011 - 10:55 AM in Darts and Barrels

This is something I have using for 2 years or so.

It is the "Sabot" ( I gave it this name in honour of the famous APDS shot of tank cannons) dart.

I will not guarantee absolute accuracy but it will have a improvement over the stock darts.

Again as a safety discretion ; wear eye protection all the time when In Game.

#306220 Would this work re: extended cosmetic barrels

Posted by SixShot on 20 October 2011 - 12:04 AM in Darts and Barrels

Dude, it isn't just some videogame fantasy. The idea behind a nerf barrel is that for as long as air (compressed or plunger generated) is pushing on the dart, the dart is in the barrel. But the second the plunger stops moving or the compressed air has all been released, you want there to be no more barrel at that point. So for some guns (HAMPS, big blasts, PASes, +bows, etc.) the absurd ammount of air requires a longer barrel.

Is my explanation making sense to anyone else other than me? Or am I jsut completely off base?

I am sorry, I typed wrongly.
It should be: "Yes, I agree getting a longer barrel might not get better accuracy."

You have a point there.

I am keeping an open mind on this issue.

#306213 Would this work re: extended cosmetic barrels

Posted by SixShot on 19 October 2011 - 09:16 PM in Darts and Barrels

Hi all

This is SixShot from SG.

(To Mods, please tell me if I am not treading the regulations.)

I have been trying to improve nerf for the past 2 years in the most scientific way possible.

For me, it is a combination of the blaster and dart.

No point having an awesome blaster and less than satisfying darts for ammo.

We all know that adding springs increases the velocity, but the darts accuracy is leaves a lot to be desired.

Using the musket and ball theory and Trebuchet idea, I figured stabilizing the trajectory of the dart might improve some but not in terms of accuracy.

I used a foam dart ( either taggers / sucker darts), took out the head portion, used the stick eraser and glued the eraser in the darts.
( If you guys want, I can post in the appropriate sections later.)

The finished dart is a fairly predictable in terms of trajectory and a MOA ( if that is the correct word to use) of 8 to 10 cm at 10 to 9 meters.

IMHO, that is one of the more achievable ways improving nerf blasters' performance.

Yes, I agree getting a longer barrel might not get better accuracy.
And it annoys me to no end that some players transplant their Counterstrike or whatever FPS beliefs into a Nerf game.
