#298141 One Hand Primable Blaster

Posted by diamondbacknf1626 on 15 May 2011 - 02:40 PM in Homemades

Wow....nice work! I remember Kane talking about how he had plans to make a blaster that is primed and fired with one hand, but was unaware that you had something in the works. Looks sweet, but how much strain does it put on the user's wrist? Also, clever idea with the shoulder stock, before I got that far into the reading I was imagining it slipping off of the shoulder while priming and sending the power of a [k26] into the user's face...ouch.

It doesn't really put any strain on the user's wrist. See the below response. Also, the stock doesn't really try to slip off your shoulder, even without the strap. The strap is only there to hold the blaster in place while returning the handle to the forward position.

Holy crap...Im going against this for the contest? I give up.

Anyway, what is behind the handle slots? That seems like just deadspace to me.

The "deadspace" that you're referring to is in place in order to keep you from having to pull your hand almost to the point of touching your shoulder in order to prime the blaster. It could be eliminated entirely, but it would be less comfortable to prime. The slots, though, actually, are too long. As you can see from the primed picture, they could be 1 1/2"- 2" shorter. Other than that though, the "deadspace" was intentional.

#298136 One Hand Primable Blaster

Posted by diamondbacknf1626 on 15 May 2011 - 01:45 PM in Homemades

So, I began thinking about this idea quite awhile ago, when I was trying to figure out where homemades could go from this point. Pump action guns have become so commonplace, and the RBP fit the bill quite spectacularly. Then, Kane posted his original string plunger "rod" blaster, the predecessor to the Bullpump, and mentioned that he would tie it around his arm and use it with one hand. The fundamental problem I see with this, though, is that in order to fire the blaster, your arm would have to be in a bent position. Basically, to prime, you'd extend your arm, and because your outstretched arm would still have tension on the string, the blaster wouldn't fire from that position, forcing you into an awkward, arm-bent position. That was my logic anyway...maybe that was just me. So, finally, I got to building, and this was the solution:
Posted Image
In order to prime the blaster, you simply pull your hand on the handle back towards your shoulder like so:
Posted Image
And then return it to the forward position with the aid of a strap keeping the back end of the blaster tight to your shoulder (I've been using a cheap belt that I never wear. I hope to set up something with a simple buckle that I can snap on quickly):
Posted Image
Posted Image
And the blaster is primed. The catch is an upgraded Rainbow catch discussed here. The handle is secured to 2" Polyester, which fits over the 1 1/4" PVC and under the 2" PVC, which has been cut to allow the handle to slide through it, but keeps all other moving parts contained, the sliding ring attached to the handle included). The whole blaster is almost exactly the length of the Rainbowpump, but being that the handle, at rest, sits about three inches farther forward, most of the weight/length is kept to the back end, which, being secured to your shoulder, makes the blaster as a whole quite comfortable to operate (with one hand). You can use it with two hands as well, of course, which also works real nice. I'm super duper happy with the way this turned out. It works real smooth, and shoots real hard. I did take down the volume a bit from a standard Rainbow draw, to keep the size reasonable, and it still shoots super nice. There were also quite a bit of new things I did to this blaster, but I will, of course, be doing a full writeup, being that this will be one of my contest submissions for ryan's homemade contest, so I will discuss them then at length. But for now, what do you guys think?

EDIT: Also, this would, in theory, be entirely operable with one hand. However, in order to make it really work smoothly, you'd need a low torque ball valve, or some sort of dart door on the end of the hopper. Otherwise you'll need the assistance of the other hand to open the hopper and to load darts. I don't want to call it entirely one hand operable, just because people may have limited access to either of these things...or may just like end caps.

Here are those templates Diamondback was talking about.

Download Here.

And here are the nylon spacers he used, 94639A301.

Thanks for puttin' them up, man. Keep in mind, guys, you can also pick up the spacers needed at your local hardware store, most likely. They're pretty easy to find.

#297426 Rainbow

Posted by diamondbacknf1626 on 21 April 2011 - 10:30 PM in Homemades

I figured I'd post this here as well as the Homemade pictures thread, being that it's relevant.

So, my work for the day, the Rainbow Rev 2:
Posted Image
Keep in mind, I did not make/design the original Rainbow, so I really can't make this the official "Rev 2," but many improvements have been made between this and the original version. One of which, as you can see, is the use of a new style of handle, the same kind that Ryan developed for use on his RBP, which is super sturdy and mad comfy. It also looks damn good.
Posted Image
The plunger head is also of his design used for the RBP, which works wonderfully. Another very notable change is the design for the catch that I devised...which uses two 6-32 1/4" OD Nylon spacers on each of the screws to provide a perfect spacing between the two circles, eliminating lopsidedness, amongst other issues. Also, rather than tap both sets of holes, only the front set is tapped, which allows the screw to properly pull the assembly tight together, as opposed to tapping both holes, in which case the threads are spread at whatever distance you start screwing the screw in at. It's difficult to explain, but basically this way is much better:
Posted Image
Ryan put together the templates for the new catches, being that the holes needed to be farther towards the outside of the circles in order to accommodate the nylon spacers as well as the sliding catch piece. I'm sure he'll post the templates up when he feels like it.

I also added a couple holes along the top portion of the blaster, drilled and tapped, which will be used to outfit the blaster with a super-sleek shoulder stock, pictures of which I am sure will be up tomorrow. Here are the holes drilled in:
Posted Image

This beauty is already outfitted for a hopper, and will be sportin' an integration and a stock ASAP, as you gents will see. By the way, the seal is perfect, and it has a [k26] spring in it, so I can only assume it shoots mad far.

So, a little bit of gun porn...this is the entirety of my collection...the homemade branch, anyway.  Starting to build it up again.  I know I've probably posted about a couple of these blasters already, but in case you happened to miss them:
Posted Image
^My PAC, which I had at one point converted to spring power, and it was awesome, but then, after getting the blaster pictured below, I decided to convert it back.  It's super cool, and I think I'm going to paint the bow arms entirely red...cuz the red just looks super cool.

Posted Image
My RBP along with it's little bro, an LpL-sized pistol but with a Rainbow catch, which, IMO, is much sleeker and super cool in comparison.

Posted Image
And in the realm of opaque PVC...my fav SNAPbow, which rapes unbelievable amounts of face, as well as it's little bro, which I made today.  This little one shoots about as far as its polycarb cousin above it.

A better pic of the little guy, seeing as I haven't posted a pic of it yet:
Posted Image

Posted Image
One big happy family :D

My two other SNAPbows, that are equally as awesome as the first:
Posted Image
The top one I made at the house I was renting while my house was being rebuilt with like, zero modding supplies.  The bottom one, I actually prefer w/o a stock...I just run a hopper on it and shoot from the hip.

Also, I guess this is a homemade...
Posted Image
Louiec3 made it...it shoots really far.

EDIT: Thanks to taerKitty, I'ma go ahead and call this the minusBow.

So, my newest toy is sort of a mod to a homemade...I received a PACbow from Ryan McNumbers awhile back, and as expected, it was super awesome. However, recently I decided that the bow arms were annoying, even though I've never, yet, warred with the bow arms equipped. Maybe I just got stuck in too many doorways for my liking...Regardless, a solution was in order. Thus, I present to you my PACbow minus the bow:
Posted Image

Sweet, huh? Here's a little before pic from Ryan's sales thread:
Posted Image

Fun stuff. Basically, where the string used to go through the plunger rod, I added a machine screw, coupled with a nut on either side of the plunger rod, and some vinyl tubing over the screw to keep it nice and smooth-like:
Posted Image
^What you're seeing there is a bit of 1/2" PVC superglued to a flat-washer, with the PVC secured into the end of the [k25] spring. This is meant to keep the [k25] centered properly, and keep it from threading around the machine screw and creating lots of headaches.

[k25], you ask? Yes, [k25]. It allowed me to use a longer spring, keeping some precompression on that spring, makes it mad easy to prime, and it still gets plenty of power, but we'll talk about that later...

Instead of that big ol' dead-space-machine 'T' on the front, a simple, airtight bushing took its place:
Posted Image

Also added a string stop to the back of the plunger rod to dampen the blow a bit. Although not necessary, this keeps the noise down to a minimum, because rather than striking the front of the plunger, the plunger rod is stopped by the string:
Posted Image

I was looking through some threads earlier today, and the above blaster looks eerily similar to Beaver's proposed pump action rainbow variant...with a +bow catch of course as opposed to a rainbow catch.
Posted Image

Ranges:
With a 10 dart hopper (not-pictured), in less than ideal weather conditions, this thing shoots around 130-140'. How cool is that?

Another Edit: Cuz people are cryin...I'd just like to clarify that this can be undone at any point and can be returned to its former bow arm functionality. Easy as pie.

#295135 A Long Over-due Explanation

Posted by diamondbacknf1626 on 27 February 2011 - 05:45 PM in Off Topic

Keep in mind, guys, I just copied and pasted this from the Trading section, so it's more trade-oriented.

Long time no post...it's been awhile. I'd just like to take a moment to give you all an idea of what's been going on in my life for the past year plus, and why I've been so inactive, for those who don't already know. On the Friday before Christmas two Christmas's ago (the 19th of December, I believe it was), I lost my house along with everything in it to a fire. My family, my pets and I were all that made it out unscathed, other than a few lucky breaks with several cherished belongings passed down from my great-grandmother as well as our many photo-albums filled with pictures from family events throughout the years. This loss included the entirety of my nerf collection. Not only does this mean guns, but spare parts, tools, modding materials, darts, etc. were all gone. As it was a total loss, we decided to rebuild, and we rebuilt the same house from the ground up (appart from the foundation, which remained intact). Although there are some differences and everything's obviously new, the structure and floorplan of the house are almost identical. We moved back in just before Thanksgiving this past November. In the meantime we lived at a rental house nearby where I had essentially no area to mod, limited tools, and limited time with all that was going on. It was hard, but life goes on, and you get through it. I'm really, to be totally honest, just happy to have my family. The fire started as a result of a rusted out cap on the bottom of the chimney, in conjunction with dry leaves, a dry night, and a spark (or so we believe). It happened at 10:30 PM or so, and we were all home, awake, about to go to sleep. The fire wasn't put out well into the morning hours, and at that point, it was too late. Throughout the time in the rental house I did modify several blasters, prepped for apoc, etc. I also attended a BCNO during that time period, so I have plenty of blasters, and now that I've found my darts, things are shaping up nerf-wise. I still though, unfortunately, lost all of my spare parts, tools, and many blasters that I, and others, put a lot of work into. Fellows, the fallen:

All of the above were spared to some degree, leaving melted remains behind. Everything in my bedroom was gone entirely, including my crossbow, other SNAPs, Plusbow, etc. In some of the cases above, actually, most notably my SNAPbow, you're seeing it's "good side." It didn't want me to take a picture of its bad side. These remains are all for sale if there are any crazies out there interested in some modern art :P.

Now, I'd like to address another thing. There are a small group of individuals out there who questioned the authenticity, the truth to the tragedy that my family and I underwent, stating that I used it as an "excuse" to get out of things, to not hold up on transactions that I may have been involved in. This is, for lack of a better word, bullshit. Someone who would fake what I went through in order to cop out on obligations they've made is a horrible, horrible person. Something like this is not something you make up "for funzies." So those of you who were "calling bullshit" on me, and you know who you are, I hope you feel like ass holes. That's all on that.

Keep in mind, gents, this isn't a search for sympathy, just a conformation for those of you who were unaware as to the reasons for my absence or the nature of what happened to me last year. I will be posting this in off-topic as well, intentionally as it belongs there as well.

As for the second portion of this "sales thread," if any of you have any of those "spare parts," that I mentioned earlier that you may be willing to part with for little to nothing, I could really use them.

I also posted several videos to this channel throughout the time at the rental house discussing it all. I also will be posting videos as my workstation begins to come together and other assorted nerf-videos, including a tour of the new house.

So yeah guys, post here, PM me, whateva...Nice posting again :)

Hey...I got a crazy idea: how about you stop all that sigging stuff? It's not even my thread and it annoys me.

added that hilarious quote to my signature, while playing with my butthole.

Anyway, 'cause Talio scares me. I dig it, rork. A little too much wood for my taste, I like the familiarity of just using CPVC particularly for the plunger rod. Looks a lot like Fome's design. Once we get settled back here, I'll probably fool with some pump action designs I've been tossing around in my head and share. I've always wondered though, since I first saw the design when Fome posted it, how sturdy is the 90 between the priming bars and the rear plate with the hole through it to accommodate the plunger rod?

#288152 Rainbow

Posted by diamondbacknf1626 on 08 November 2010 - 07:27 PM in Homemades

Well, I think you're right on that one. There are just so many people using SNAPs that you can't count them. I wasn't originally wanting to build a homemade, but now I really want to build a SNAP, or a rainbow.

Snaps are homemades idiot. They are just a different type.

Great mechanism Stark and friends. I like the simplicity and sleek design.

Woah, woah, woah, un-bunch your panties there, kiddo. It's rather clear that lionhawk understands that SNAPs are homemade blasters, but just wanted to comment that to him, they don't, apparently, have the originality that he sees in "homemades"

As for the Rainbow, I'm a huge fan of this new catch setup and intent to impliment it on many further blasters. One thing that may help to align the catch plates in opaque PVC is to take two pieces of a size PVC that fits within your plunger tube, measure them out appropriately for the dead-space on either side of the proposed catch position, and squeeze the catch between the two in order to align it right where you want it. Overall though, fantastic design, and I'm sure it'll contribute to many future designs.

I don't know when...but I smell a bow-powered Ellen on its way.

Also, great work as always, I may apply this to my pumpbow if I get the chance to go out this weekend and get the materials.

Both are mine (I'm not sharing just yet with Whitemoonlight...hehe). I will be makin loads more soon. Oh, and btw, they shoot farther than your NF rifles. 110' easy...

A superbly surprising blaster I made post-fire, pre-apoc, that proved to be really good. I was shooting over peoples' heads all day...srsly, it shoots excessively far...110'+ (if you guys haven't guessed, that's where the woodline is on this property...can't really measure after that. It hits that far at chest level though.)

Finally I got a hold of a way to get some pics up here for you guys ta see, and here are, for all intents and purposes, my two favorite blasters I currently own:
Posted Image
Posted Image

The one on the left was made by Rork, features a superlative plunger head, as well as an integrated backwards half-snap just incase.
The one on the right was made by myself the other day, also features a superlative plunger head, and super excessive zip tie usage, but as opposed to the integration, I decided to give it a modular forgrip.
Both seal supa dupa well (I can hold my hand over the bushing and entirely stop the plunger rod about halfway through the PT), and both shoot farther than your +bow.

Supa cool war, guys. 'twas unfortunate I had to leave early, but I had a great time.

Pros:
-Had the most kick-ass Lanard shotgun of the day. Srsly though, it was super beast. I was shooting over people all day.
-SNAPbow...I love you.
-Picked myself up a pumpBow from Split. Buy 'em, they're super beast.
-Chasin' some kid down with said pumpBow, him running out of amo in his 2k, turning around to bolt, and running head-on into a bush. Win.
-Meeting Phree Agent and his crew. Team spank-ass dominated the day.
-Super ultra flank with Ryan of team spank-ass- "Tap, tap, tap..."
-Ted running.
-Nothing broke, surprisingly.
-Literally making my bro's freckle on his leg explode w/ a shot from my SNAP.
-Successfully getting consistent hits all day w/ copper BB darts. I think maybe all day I had one dart spiral out on me. Basically, Rogue makes super clean darts. Buy yerself some.
-Getting hurt in the face w/ the Doomsayer. I feel blessed.
-I got to caress Ellen. Gears wasn't looking.
-Loads more...just don't feel like listin' 'em all.

Cons:
-Can't rlly think of any...if I do, I'll click that fancy edit key.

Posted by diamondbacknf1626 on 27 May 2010 - 05:05 PM in Darts and Barrels

That shouldn't happen. There is something wrong in your setup. I notice about a 10-20% range loss when using a hopper clip as opposed to a single barrel.

SNAPs can be weird; they're probably somewhat slow to pressurize compared to a Plusbow. I suspect I simply never found the optimum barrel length for singled usage; I tested up to 16" and quit when it started hitting 105'+ every shot.

Same deal with my SNAP. They're just cool like that.

I hate being the first poster...but uh...I guess I'm gonna be this time. War was awesome, had a really good time. A little breakdown:
Pros
-realizing that I cannot use a hopper clip on my SNAP, and I'm far more effective with a speedloader.
-"Shield" or whatever that gametype was called. Basically, two teams, if one person gets shot, they have to count down out loud from 15. In this 15 seconds, they can still shoot, run, play as normal. If they get shot again in this 15 seconds, they're out. If not, they return to normal. Excellent game type. No idea who came up with it, but I think it was played at one earlier BCNO that I didn't make it to.
-Taking down Zack the Mack by myself in shield with a shot from the main gun of my SNAP and then the integration.
-Meeting some new guys, including Imaseoulman, who sold me loads of stuff, and was a really funny guy. Good nerfer too.
-Stacking the teams in our favor at times...Myself, seoulman, DX, and Alextwin...It wasn't really fair at all. Hehe.
-Discovering that I can hit people from across the field with this big blast I threw together the night before the war.
-Saying to seoulman at the beginning of the round, "bet ya I can hit one of them right now," and then proceeding to launch a dart up in the air at the beginning of the round, only to see one of the kids like, flinch back, and look a little distraught..."woah, did I get ya?" "yeah...."
-"Basically what I'm asking is, would you fight me right now?" "Nah..."
-Came home with over 100 darts. Now that's impressive for me.
-My broken ankle surviving the day.
-Taking down zack the mack in a pistol dual during a wingman round after my wingman's gun broke.
-Being crazily sore today, the day after. Proves it was a good war.
-My SNAP was beast. End of story.

Cons
-Seoulman gave me a 40 pound head start, and he still kicked my ass.

DX - The Mag7 and many other hosts have been banning all non-CS darts from their wars. The idea is to limit range and prevent the poor widdle nerfers from having to suffer through the agony of welts.

I'm glad we're all macho here and don't restrict darts.

Yo, so I may not be able to cut the spring, unfortunately. I'll see. Also, my wyes vanished from all existence. No idea what happened, but they're gone.

Alright, this is killing me. I'm gonna check with my parents and see if I can come. It'll all depend on getting a ride from Alex and someone supplying me with darts.

Can't make it the 22nd or the 29th. If I supported emoticons, there would be a very large frowny face right *here*

Pretty much almost sorta-kinda entirely a definite...but I guess technically you'll have to mark me as a maybe. I'm almost positive I can make it though, and quite thankful this wasn't scheduled a week earlier.

I most certainly need this ankle to heal quicker. Bump me up to the VIP maybe status.

So here's the deal...I'm sportin' a broken ankle at the moment...hopefully by that time I'll be off crutches and good to go...but we'll see. I'm also still lacking darts since the fire, along with supplies to make them.

I 100% agree with your first point...Tornado shells are absolutely more comfy than X-bows. Looks awesome. I had gone the easier route and slapped a 3k tank into mine, and it was great, but this is more what I would've liked to do thinking back. Can't wait to see final range results once that catch is fixed up. And that ~100' you have now, is that with slug darts or slingshot weighted ones?
