#71912 Double-action Spring Guns?

Posted by m15399 on 29 January 2006 - 10:12 PM in Homemades

My freind has a little disc shooter that works like that. It doesn't compress a spring that then shoots air into the barrel, though. It has a little groove that pushes the discs out the front, which could work in a nerf gun, but it wouln't shoot too far. You're better off trying to figure out how to make a magazine advance on the "out" of the trigger (when the trigger is released). Then all you need is an air source and a semi-auto air valve.

Do the rounds (forgive the term) just sit in front of the barrel, or is there something to push them into a coupler or something? If they just sit there, you're going to lose a lot of air from leakage, decreasing your range.

Three second google search.

Do you mean a paper magazine?

#71184 Help With A Nerf Ball Cannon

Posted by m15399 on 18 January 2006 - 06:08 PM in Homemades

On a side note, what makes the gun you linked to "semi-auto". It's bolt action.

(it's a robot, program it to reload)

Let's read the parentheses next time, eh?

I guess you need a barrel of some kind, and whatever it is, I'm sure you'll find a way to attach it to your robot's Nerf gun.

Look no further.
Have it use a large short barrel with a magazine (it's a robot, program it to reload). Hook it up to a huge rubber bladder to apply a constant pressure of air. Use the air compressor to fill it up and blast away! Er... program your robot to blast away!

#71105 Discs

Posted by m15399 on 16 January 2006 - 09:47 PM in Homemades

That's already been done. If you want my opinion, you're better off with a spring or air gun.

#71077 Discs

Posted by m15399 on 16 January 2006 - 01:47 PM in Homemades

No. Bad. The "discs that spin to propell ammo" would be spinning in the same direction (you want one going clockwise, one counter to propell the disc) and the disc would either be ripped to shreds or would pop out in a totally insane direction. Maybe if the disc had sufficient lift, it would hover for a few moments, but theres no way that's going to shoot a disc without another motor, or another gear.

The FAR has a magazine for a nerf gun...

Try ompa's clip mod.

7th graders are usually about half 12, half 13.

Hunter, It would be nice if you read everyone's posts and replied to their questions (hint: Mine).

On every forum I've seen, It said you had to be 13 to join.

Sorry, I though that was the standard.

^That looks like the robot in the game "Junkbot" on the lego website...

How much does the ribbon affect range?

NH, unlike NHQ or many other forums, has much less posting activity

I am a member of three super soaker forums, and the amount of posts NH gets per day is about twice as much as all the posts the three super soaker forums got combined per day around July/August. Within the genre (Toy Guns), NH is very active.

#69346 Self-propelled Arrows/missles?

Posted by m15399 on 16 December 2005 - 07:21 PM in Homemades

bloody impossible anyway, the thing will ether have slightly negitive weight or slightly positive weight

We're talking theoretically here. Notice I said "ideally".
All that I'm saying is it can be done. Maybe not with helium and maybe not with a stefan, but it is possible to make a projectile that does not have weight (theoretically).

In other words, let's stop discussing a pointless subject

I wouldn't call it pointless, but if it seems to bother everyone so much I'll stop talking.

#69260 Self-propelled Arrows/missles?

You're confusing weight and mass, here. A floating stefan has no weight, but it still has mass. If you made a stefan out of a helium filled tiny mylar balloon with an exact amount of weight (no pun intended) added, such as tape wrapped around it, to equilize gravity, it would have reasonable mass and would (ideally) float forever, making it go for a very long ways. Due to air resistance, it would slow down very quickly because it would have less mass than an ordinary stefan, but it would still travel farther.

#69242 Self-propelled Arrows/missles?

Posted by m15399 on 14 December 2005 - 09:29 PM in Homemades

I realize this is Nerf, but I must adress this comment.

I'd figure that making any dart have no weight (and thus float) would also make it worthless

It has nothing to do with density. It has to do with the mass and the shape of the object (air resistance).

You must be at least 13 years of age to use this forum.

Someone didn't read the rules.

"I want to add a helium-filled water balloon to a stefan, so it'll counteract the force of gravity just enough so that it'd float forever, thus having incredible ranges. It'll work...right?"

That can be done, but not in the way you described. It would be a waste of time but it would get incredible ranges. B)

#69051 Self-propelled Arrows/missles?

PVC is not light enough. You would need to use something of PTEG weight. Even a metal nail is too heavy. Also, you won't be able to shoot anything with by pumping air into a pipe. You need some kind of rubber bladder to push out all the air.

You aren't going to get any range with air pressure (self-propelled). You need an estes type engine without as much power.

#69000 Self-propelled Arrows/missles?

A nail can't pierce a co2 canister, if that's what you're saying.

#68989 Self-propelled Arrows/missles?

Those are not self-propelled. They would probably work better, though.

#68984 Self-propelled Arrows/missles?

Or you could have a homemade that pinches the end of the bladder and releases it at the pull of the trigger. It would be extremely innacurate in any case (come to think of it it wouldn't go very far at all, either). If you figured out how to make a very small nerf grenade and used it as a nose cone type thing on the rocket, it could be slightly useful. You really need a longer lasting, more powerful propellant.

#68566 Special Ammunition

Posted by m15399 on 29 November 2005 - 06:00 PM in General Nerf

The point was he already has the launcher and is looking for ammunition. You would have to mod the launcher to be able to use a different sized barrel. I know I wouldn't want to mod a paintball launcher (probably cost an arm and a leg).

#68537 Special Ammunition

Posted by m15399 on 28 November 2005 - 07:53 PM in General Nerf

If you wanted the Douch to shoot stefans... Just build a ball valve homemade with a huge pressure chamber and a 10 ft. barrel :P
It's basically the same thing.

#68506 Special Ammunition

Posted by m15399 on 27 November 2005 - 10:19 PM in General Nerf

Try putting a whole bunch of shotgun stefans (short ones) in a plastic cup cut down to fit the barrel. You could also put something like a tennis ball (tennis ball won't work) down the barrel with a million stefans in front of it.

Oops, Dux beat me. But, the paper cup used in the "Douch" is the same idea.

#68116 Mav20

Posted by m15399 on 22 November 2005 - 07:37 PM in General Nerf

I agree with that. Just use a Rapid Fire 20 with no mav stuff on it. There's no point in converting a full auto gun into a plain one. It's like taking a machine gun and making it into a rifle with lower range.

Actually this is my first post too B)
But I've posted a few times on Nerf HQ.
