Zorn and Beaver will be the first to participate in a new program where moderators will be assigned to sections of the site and new moderators will be rotated in every few months. Beaver is moderating the Modifications and Homemades forums and Zorn is taking on General Nerf and Nerf Wars. Don't be fooled. Although the position is called 'moderator', they can still do the same vile disgusting things to your user account that I can, and they're even less likely to buy you dinner first.

Ryan is the newest addition to our illustrious pantheon of Contributors. If you live in the US, Canada, UK, or Australia, I recommend searching by choosing only the state/province you live in and leaving all other fields blank. If you live outside of those countries, select your country and leave all other fields blank. Searching using the "Location" field (the one that isn't a dropdown) is a bit hit-or-miss due the the wide variety of formats people have entered their location in, but it is also older and thus more commonly used. If you're coming up with a lot of old and inactive members, you can also restrict your search to members who have logged in recently by selecting a date in the "Last visit is after:" field.

As always, one of the easiest ways to find already active nerfers in your area is to check the 2012 Nerf War Schedule and keep an eye on the Nerf Wars Forum

You're a Fucking New Guy (FNG), so you'll take what we feel like giving you and you'll like it. These measures are in place to slow down spammers and trolls, and to keep new kids from losing their goddamned heads because they suddenly have a post button. It lasts a few weeks. Deal with it.

Also, on a completely different note I want to extend gratitude to Langley publicly. We got hacked because the site hadn't been updated in months because none of us give a shit and he some-crazy-how got the place back on it's feet. It's only because of him that I'm able to post this now. None of us did a god damn thing to fix it and he really stepped up and knocked it out of the park. He's been a close friend for a long time and I'm happy to have him as part of the team. Members currently in the Waiting group will be automatically upgraded to FNGs in a few days. Until then, read our archives, and familiarize yourself with the rules below.

Registration will be open for NerfHaven on a trial basis for the next 72 hours. Instead of being manually validated by an administrator as in the past, new members will be added to a Waiting list group. After a few days, each member will be automatically promoted to the Fucking New Guy (FNG) group, which is allowed to post with certain limitations. Finally, after a few weeks, the FNGs will become regular members.

To help prevent forum spam and advertisement bots, I have implemented a few new features including an improved captcha system and a spam filter similar to what you probably already have in your e-mail client. I have also added a reporting system to allow members to report spammers that have made it through the defenses. You may have already noticed the report button that has appeared in the bottom left of each post. This will allow you to quietly bring spammers and trolls to the attention of the administrators.

During this trial run, I expect new and current members to observe the following rules. For anyone who fails, I will be gleefully handing out suspensions like they are candy.

• DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS. If a new member is obviously a spammer or a troll (ie intentional harassment, not well-intentioned ignorance of the rules) do not reply to them. You are only perpetuating their bullshit. Use the report system, that is what it is there for.
  
• DO NOT ABUSE THE REPORT SYSTEM. If you file a report for anything other than spamming and trolling, you may be suspended.
  
• DO NOT BACK SEAT MODERATE. There will be new members. Some of them will not know what the fuck. Be reasonable. Pointing someone in the right direction is fine if you're not the third or fourth person to do it in the same thread. Acting like an authority figure and posting YOU'SE GONNA GET BANNED LOLZ will get you suspended.

The time has come! Let's see who can build the best homemade blaster.

The contest starts now. No previous homemades that have already been built will be accepted. You must build your submission in between now and the deadline of the contest. Your submission must be a write-up. A block of pictures with some text is not a write-up.

Your blaster will be judged on several criteria which are listed below. Each category is weighted a different amount of points.

• Creativity (15 points) - Has this been done before, or is it something completely new and radical? More points will be awarded to submissions that "break the mold", so to speak. Example, if you print out templates for a plusbow, you won’t be getting many points for this category.
  
  
• War Effectiveness/Practicality (15 points) - This category will judge how effective your blaster is at a Nerf war. This does not include wars where you stand at opposite sides of a field, hide in the bushes, and take pot shots at your max range. The more scenarios your blaster will excel in, the better. Sustained rate of fire is always more important than range. Also, how practical is it to use? Easy to use or cumbersome to carry? Do you need two people to prime it? Is it 4 feet long or can it fit in your pocket? You get the idea.
  
  
• Difficulty/Repeatability (10 points) - How easy is your blaster to reproduce, and what skill level is involved in constructing your blaster? A blaster like the "SNAP” would get a lot of points here. The more simplistic, the better. On the opposite side of the spectrum, a blaster like Boltsniper's FAR, would get zero points. If you need exotic tooling to create certain parts, you won't get many points here. Same goes for exotic materials.
  
  
• Durability (5 points) - Since we won't be able to physically examine the blasters, we'll look at your design and recognize possible weak points in the construction. If you can prove it's been through several wars without a hitch, you'll get a lot of points here. If your blaster looks like it's going to explode into a million pieces when you dry-fire it, that's a problem. Over-building something is definitely not a problem.
  
  
• Writeup Quality (5 points) - Is your write-up easy to follow? Detailed instructions and extra pictures of things difficult to explain in words will get more points in this category. Proper grammar and coherent sentences are required. Templates are always nice, too.
  
  
• Cost/Labor (5 points) - Self-explanatory, but the cheapest, and the least amount of labor required, will be awarded the most points.
